Since the Jio GigaFiber announcement last year in August, there have been a lot of questions among consumers, including when they can start using the service or when it will be available in their area. There is finally some good news as the company is slowly ramping up the rollout in select areas in cities around the country. Reliance Jio is still not calling it a commercial rollout and the consumers are still being provided the Jio GigaFiberservice under the preview offer, which has been live for some time now. msnTarGet.com

There have been several reports claiming to reveal the details of Reliance Jio GigaFiber service, but the company was silent until now. It has recently published some frequently asked questions (FAQS) on its website, which detail some aspects of its service, including security deposit details as well as the prepaid plan. SoAs.in

We, at Gadgets 360, managed to get ourselves a Jio GigaFiber connection under the ongoing preview offer. Thanks to our experience in getting the connection as well as our brief time with the service, we have put together this explainer to help you get a Jio GigaFiber connection under the ongoing preview offer. MobAsk.com

Jio GigaFiber Price, Plans, Installation Process and More: Answers to Your Jio GigaFiber Question

Jio GigaFiber Price, Plans, Installation Process and More: Answers to Your Jio GigaFiber Question
Jio GigaFiber Price, Plans, Installation Process and More: Answers to Your Jio GigaFiber Question
  • Jio GigaFiber is free to use under the preview offer
  • The consumers get up to 100Mbps speed with 100GB of data, with free topup
  • Jio GigaFiber involves a Rs. 4,500 security deposit right now

Jio GigaFiber installation process explained

As of now, unlike other Internet service providers (ISPs), you can't just approach Reliance Jio and submit an application for a new connection. The company is asking interested consumers to register their interest in the service on its website or via MyJio app, and once it is ready for the commercial rollout in your area, the company will get back to you with the connection details. Fun2Ind.com

However, anecdotal evidence suggests that the company executives have already started making rounds of areas where the company's fibre infrastructure is already in place, to find potential Jio GigaFiber customers. You can approach these executives if you manage to spot them or if you get hold a promotional pamphlet with an executive's details, you can directly call them to get a new Jio GigaFiber connection.

All the new connections currently being offered by the company are under the preview offer as the company has not officially detailed the Jio GigaFiber plans. It is expected that the company will announce the commercial rollout in the coming months and most likely reveal the plans at the same time.

Jio GigaFiber installation plans and price

As per part of the Jio GigaFiber preview offer, the company is asking for Rs. 4,500 as the security deposit. It claims that the security deposit is meant for the optical network terminal (ONT) – Gigahub Home Gateway. There are no charges for the activation, deactivation, or installation of the service. If a consumer is not satisfied with the service for any reason, they can get the GigaFiber disconnected and the security deposit will be refunded. It, however, can take up to 45 days for the company to process the refund.

Jio notes that the service is completely free for the first three months in the preview offer. The customers will be given 100GB of data every month at the speed of up to 100Mbps. If a consumer manages to use the complete 100GB of data, there are free 40GB top-ups available on Jio website as well as the MyJio app.

According to the company, Jio GigaFiber is currently just a prepaid service, but there are plans to offer a postpaid option as well in the future. Jio, however, hasn't shared a fixed time-frame for a postpaid rollout. SoAs.in

How to get a Jio GigaFiber connection right now

In simple terms, here's how to go about getting a Jio GigaFiber connection:

1. The Jio representatives are making rounds of areas where Jio GigaFiber infrastructure is already in place and if you meet any such representatives, you can ask them to get a new connection. These company executives seem to be the only way to get a GigaFiber connection until the company officially starts the commercial rollout. SoAs.in

2. You will need to pay Rs. 4,500 for the new GigaFiber connection. This is a refundable security deposit and needs to be paid through debit card, credit card, Jio Money, or Paytm.

3. The representative will also ask for address documentation as well as a passport-size photograph.

4. As soon as you deposit the security amount, the company will send you a text message for the new connection.

5. After a couple of days, you will receive details of hardware installation. You can decide when you want the installation executive to visit your home.

6. On a scheduled time, the company technicians will visit your home for the installation and setup the necessary wiring as well as Gigahub Home Gateway. As soon as your service is activated, you can start using Jio GigaFiber Internet. msnTarGet.com

Android Q: 6 likely features that will change the way you use your smartphone

1. Foldable phone support

Native foldable phone support is something that has the highest possibility of showing up in Android Q. The support has already been showcased by Android’s David Burke last year in a parallel event exactly when Samsung was revealing its first-ever foldable display. Native support will mean a cleaner and smoother layout of Android apps in foldable smartphones. Fun2Ind.com

2. Dark Mode

System-wide dark mode is one of the features that is not yet official but Google has been indicating it since quite some time. The search giant in 2018 introduced Dark Mode in several of its apps, suggesting that it is serious about it and might just bring dark mode on the system level itself. SoAs.in

3. Enhanced PiP mode

Enhanced PiP in Android Q could work in the similar fashion as what is seen in high-end Samsung smartphones these days. It will let you place the window of different apps on your screen, all of which will run simultaneously, making you more productive. MobAsk.com

4. Native support for facial recognition
In 2018 we saw several smartphone makers introducing facial recognition in their handsets. However, they would have to implement heavy interface changes for the support. With native support, it will be easier to use face recognition and more handsets will be able to support it. Fun2Ind.com

5. More permissions

Some new permissions were found recently by XDA Developers in Android Q’s framework. This means that the OS will ask users to give apps access to what’s saved in the clipboard, something that is not possible now and gives every app the access to clipboard information. msnTarget.com

6. Support for downgrading any app

As found by XDA Developers in Android Q’s framework, one might also be able to downgrade to the older app version. This is possible for now but only with Google’s own apps. As indicated in Android Q’s framework, the OS version may let you downgrade any app.

Reliance Jio has now introduced a dedicated JioRail app for JioPhone and JioPhone 2 feature phone users in India. The JioRail app is powered by IRCTC and it allows users to book and cancel tickets by using debit cards, credit cards and e-wallets, check PNR status, train information, timings, routes, seat availability and several other services. “In its continued effort towards building a Digitally empowered India, Jio is redefining convenience for its users yet again,” said the Mukesh Ambani-owned telco in a press statement. The JioRail app can be downloaded for free via Jio App Store. This move from Jio comes after the introduction of two long-validity plans for JioPhone users. As of now, it’s unknown whether the JioRail app is available for other KaiOS devices like the Nokia 8110 4G. msnTarGet.com

JioRail App for JioPhone Launched

As noted, Jio announced the JioRail app in collaboration with IRCTC and it allows users to make Tatkal booking for any last minute travel plans. Firstly, to book the tickets, users will have to sign in with their IRCTC account. If a user does not have an IRCTC account, the app allows them to create one without hassle. Furthermore, with JioRail app, users can check the PNR status for the tickets booked and it will soon provide IRCTC’s newly launched services like PNR status change alerts, locate train and food ordering in future. Back at the launch of JioPhone 2, the company stated that it has over 25 million JioPhone users, which is an incredible number considering the original JioPhone was released back in June 2017. At the moment, we don’t have the exact JioPhone subscriber base, but it’s expected to be over 40 million. Jio’s aim was to achieve 100 million JioPhone users which could happen in the next couple of years. Fun2ind.com

Launching the JioRail app for JioPhone and JioPhone 2, the company stated “Train ticket booking has been made quite simple on the JioRail app. With this unique service, India’s consumers can avoid standing in long queues or pay agent fees to book tickets and instead enjoy an enhanced digital life experience.” MobAsk.com

As you might be aware of by now, the JioPhone and JioPhone 2 runs KaiOS which is the reason why developers are able to launch new applications. JioPhone already has support for popular apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Google Maps and so on.

JioPhone Users Got Two Long-Validity Plans

Last week, Reliance Jio announced two long-validity plans for JioPhone users. The plans in question are Rs 594 and Rs 297 which offer benefits for 168 days and 84 days respectively. The Rs 594 plan offers unlimited calling, 0.5GB or 500MB of 4G data per day and 300 SMSes every month for a period of 168 days, while the Rs 297 plan ships with similar benefits for 84 days from the date of recharge. If you closely observe, Jio is providing the Rs 99 JioPhone plan for six months and three months respectively, and there’s nothing special with the newly launched long-validity plans for JioPhone users.
