WhatsApp updates for 2019: Popular messaging app WhatsApp is reportedly testing new features for its beta users. The new features will be available in future for any user having the AppStore version. These features are not available to all users till now, reports Wabetainfo. Most of the features will gradually make their way to the final version of WhatsApp but that still may be months away.  SoAs.IN

Last month, WhatsApp launched its first official public beta program. The messaging has recently submitted a new beta update through the TestFlight beta program, bringing the version up to 2.19.10.21, according to wabetainfo.com. According to the report, these new features will be immediately enabled in the next 2.19.10 iOS update on AppStore. msnTarGet.CoM

The users can check TestFlight Page for availability for new WhatsApp beta slots for iOS beta apps. In the new beta version, WhatsApp is said to have allowed users to use any stickers on images, videos and GIFs. Also, any personal sticker from the private collection would be resizable as per the user's wish.

You will able to choose stickers received in your chats if you marked them as a favourite, says Wabetainfo. The beta version for iOS seeks to enable "Reply Privately" feature, which was announced earlier for Android 2.18.335 beta update. This option is now being tested for iOS. Currently, this option was available for iOS when the user wants to reply to a message from a group where he/she is no longer a participant. The Facebook-owned app has now extended this benefit to any type of participant. MobAsk.CoM

The new beta version for iOS allows users to "peek and pop cells on the section Status", says the report. This means the user can quickly see the preview of the status updates published by contacts when the device supports 3D Touch technology. Fun2INd.CoM

The latest beta version of iOS also makes managing grouped stickers easier.   WhatsApp came up with many new updates to stay ahead last year. The messaging app launched features like WhatsApp Business, WhatsApp web and desktop, WhatsApp Group calling, and WhatsApp Document sharing, among others. soas.in

WhatsApp has also built end-to-end encryption into the latest versions of its app. When end-to-end encrypted, your messages and calls are secured so only you and the person you're communicating with can read or listen to them, and nobody in between, not even WhatsApp.

In 2018, we saw several new features coming to WhatsApp that made texting easier and fun. However, some features are still spotted online and are under tests in different beta versions on iOS and Android platforms. So, in 2019, here are the new features that WhatsApp may get. Check it out.

Consecutive Voice Messages: You can hear voice messages continuously

Sticker Search: Lets you search WhatsApp Stickers easily

Vacation or Silent mode: Muted chats stay archived when new messages arrive

Vacation Mode is a feature that was spotted a few weeks ago by WABeta Info in the iOS app and is under works. It is said to be based on the ‘Silent mode’ that has already started rolling out to a few customers. This feature archives the muted chats for as long as the user wants.

WhatsApp Linked accounts: Lets you recover account passwords easily

This unannounced feature lets you link your account with external services. t is aimed for the WhatsApp Business app however some references have been discovered in the regular app as well, according to WABetaInfo. mobask.com

Dark Mode: Changes the entire look of the UI

The Dark Mode feature, as the name suggests, will turn the background of the WhatsApp chat dark. Been under works since a while now, the feature will be similar to what we have on popular apps like YouTube, Twitter, Google Maps and even Google Messages among others. This upcoming feature was spotted on both Android and iOS platforms.

Share contact info via QR: Easier and secure way of sharing your information

The ‘Share contact info via QR’ feature aims to make sharing contact information easily. It will help you to generate a QR code that will include your contact information. Once this QR code is shared, WhatsApp will automatically fill all fields and the contact will be added in users' address book. It will work similar to the Nametag feature, which was rolled out on Instagram recently.

Multi-share Files: Lets you share multiple files to multiple contacts at once

With this feature, WhatsApp users will be able to share a file (PDF, audio, etc) with two or more contacts from another application. This feature will also give users a preview of the message before it is sent out. Fun2Ind.CoM

View videos directly in the push notification: Saves you time to open the app and watch the content

Spotted in iOS, this feature will allow WhatsApp users to play videos they receive in the push notification itself and eliminate the need to open the chat.

Ranking of contacts: Ranks contacts based on the amount of chatting

As the name suggests, this feature will allow users to rank their contacts on basis of their interaction with them. As spotted by WABetaInfo, good ranking would mean if there is an exchange of media, simple text messages will be ranked as average ranking and ignoring the message would be counted as bad ranking. soas.in

Add contact within WhatsApp: Makes it easier for you to add contacts directly from WhatsApp

This feature will allow users to add contacts within WhatsApp itself. Once this feature is rolled out, WhatsApp will allow you to choose the country where the contact number you want to add and WhatsApp will automatically insert the country code, following which you can insert the phone number.

Losing a smartphone in today's day and age is almost a nightmare for most of us. For, so much of our data, most accounts (including banks), digital wallets, photos, chats, emails and more is in this compact device. Losing the phone means, losing not just the device but also so much of this data.

However, in case you meet such misfortune there's lot that needs to be done. One of this is also to ensure that no stranger gets hold of your WhatsApp account. As it has become one of the most important tools of communication for most of us. And now with WhatsApp Payments rolling out, it's become all the more critical to make sure that your WhatsApp account does not get in the wrong hands. (fun2ind.com)

How to restore your WhatsApp account in case you lose your phone or its gets stolen

How to restore your WhatsApp account in case you lose your phone or its gets stolen
How to restore your WhatsApp account in case you lose your phone or its gets stolen
Here's a step-by-step guide that you need to follow in case your smartphone is lost or stolen to secure your WhatsApp account msnTarGet.CoM.

1. The first thing to do in this case is to lock your SIM card by calling your mobile service provider. Once you have done this, it will not be possible to for anyone to authenticate the account on that handset. This is because it is necessary to get an SMS or phone call to certify the account associated to your number. And since the SIM will be deactivated, the person who is in possession of your device will not be able to use it.

2. After getting your SIM locked, you can now activate your WhatsApp on a different handset. The fastest way to do this is to use a SIM card with the same number. Remember, WhatsApp can be activated only on one device at a time on a phone number soas.in.

3. Another option is to send an email to the WhatsApp team. In case, you go for this option, include the sentence "Lost/stolen: Deactivate my account" in the body of the email, along with your phone number. Give these details with your country code. Also, remember to write your number exactly as you have it saved in your smartphone.

One more thing to note here is that WhatsApp can also be operated using Wi-Fi even if the SIM card is not present inside the handset so it is necessary to contact WhatsApp team and get your account deactivated. As it is also not possible to disable WhatsApp from any other device. WhatsApp is not able to find the location of the lost handset. Users have a 30-day window to reactivate this account. After a month, the account will be completely erased. In case your contacts send you messages during this period, they will remain pending, but will get erased after 30 days. mobask.com

If you had backed up your chats using Google Drive, iCloud or any other cloud solution before your phone went missing, you might be able to restore your chat history.

WhatsApp is one of the most-popular messaging apps globally. Over the past many months, the Facebook-owned app has added several new security and privacy features such as two-step verification, hiding status, hiding profile pictures and more on msnTarGet.com

Another such feature is the ability to block someone on WhatsApp. But did you know that there's a workaround that can allow a person blocked on WhatsApp to send message to the person who has blocked him/her. Wonder how? Read on to find out soas.in

Note: This is not an actual way to unblock yourself. This workaround can only get you the option to start a conversation with that person again, and may be you can convince him/her to unblock you from personal chat. As the person has the option to quit the group you have become a part of with him/her. This will again leave no scope for you to connect with that person on WhatsApp.
How to 'chat' with someone on WhatsApp after being blocked
How to 'chat' with someone on WhatsApp after being blocked
How to 'chat' with someone on WhatsApp after being blocked
Before you get going with the guide, remember that you should first know know that you have been blocked by someone.

So, let's start with knowing if someone has blocked you:

  • Check whether you can see that person in your WhatsApp contact list
  • Can you look at his/her chat and other profile information or not
  • Do you see a single tick after sending a message
If you can't see all of these three information, it means that you have been blocked by that person.

Now, you need to create a group with that person to be able to chat with him her. And as you cannot create a new group with the person who has blocked you, you can do this in three ways: use any other phone number (most obvious), ask your mutual friends to create a group or use virtual phone number.  (Fun2Ind.CoM)

Reference:

  • Account 1: The person blocked you
  • Account 2: You
  • Account 3: Mutual friend

1. Steps to follow

  • Open your WhatsApp
  • Tap on three dots from the top right and tap on 'New Group'
  • In case you are using your other number then simply add Account 3 to that group
  • Once the group is created, open the group and top on three dots and select the option 'Group info.'
  • Now, assign Account 3 as Admin  MobAsk.CoM
  • Ask Account 3 to add Account 1 to the group You can also ask Account 3 to leave the group once all the process is done.

Today, it takes seconds for a hoax message to spread on WhatsApp. It’s because of this spread of misinformation that several incidents of lynching have been reported in India in the past couple of months. In fact, after the lynching incidents were reported, the Indian government directed WhatsApp to take measures to resolve the spread of misinformation. On account of that WhatsApp has now restricted the forwards to only five at a time. In the last few years, most WhatsApp users must have come across hundreds of such hoax messages. There’s a new hoax message spreading in the town and you should beware of it. The message is related to “WhatsApp Gold”.

WhatsApp Gold Virus Returns: Here’s What to Do if You Receive This Hoax Message

WhatsApp Gold Virus Returns: Here’s What to Do if You Receive This Hoax Message
WhatsApp Gold Virus Returns: Here’s What to Do if You Receive This Hoax Message

What Is WhatsApp Gold and Why Should WhatsApp Users Care?

As noted, WhatsApp Gold is a hoax message which users are spreading on a massive scale. The WhatsApp Gold message is being set up by a group of scammers to fool users. With the message, the scammers are persuading the WhatsApp users to believe that there is a secret update available for them getting which they will get new features and an enhanced version of WhatsApp. Some people are also falling for it, beware.

The scammers are basically sending a link with the message to the WhatsApp users and asking them to download WhatsApp Gold, which in reality is a malware that you’re downloading the not new version of WhatsApp. This hoax message also includes the word “Martinelli”.

Well, if you have been using WhatsApp for years now, you’ll probably remember that back in 2016 a hoax message was spread with the same “Martinelli” word on it. As is the case now, Martinelli created panic attacks among the WhatsApp users then too.

This is how apparently the message read: “If you know anyone using WhatsApp you might pass on this. An IT colleague has advised that a video comes out from WhatsApp called martinelli do not open it, it hacks your phone and nothing will fix it. Spread the word.” But the reality is, there’s no video at all. The said video called martinelli doesn’t exist in real life.

What Should You Do to Avoid These Messages?

Notably, such kind of hoax messages spread very easily and similar is the case with the new one. To avoid being attacked by these hoax messages WhatsApp you should first stop forwarding them to your friends and family and avoid spreading them even further to other people. If you get such a message that promises to give you something and also comes with a link, simply ignore them. As soon as you receive such messages delete them and be alert to not click on them.

WhatsApp, a messaging platform owned by Facebook, is doing really well with over a billion users but despite its complete domination, especially in India, let's stop for a second and ask ourselves - Is WhatsApp the best messenger out there? msnTarGet.com The answer is a BIG NO! There are a lot of areas it can improve upon. Following are some of the areas where it lags behind the competition.

5 reasons why WhatsApp is not the best messaging app

5 reasons why WhatsApp is not the best messaging app
5 reasons why WhatsApp is not the best messaging app

WhatsApp degrades the image quality:

One of the major reasons behind WhatsApp success was its ability to send photos instantly. The messaging app was able to do this by compressing content. The compression led to no visible deterioration in the image files. But after a recent update, the photos received over WhatsApp are blurry and pixelated. Previously, images were reduced to 1024*768 or 1600*900 from the original resolution. But now, images with 16:9 aspect ratios are shrunk to about 800*450 while all 4:3 images have a maximum resolution of 800*600, making the transferred images useless.

Privacy:

First and foremost, WhatsApp makes phone numbers public thereby raising several privacy related issues. It's easier for any random person to get hold of your personal phone number via WhatsApp messenger. MsnTarGet.com It would be better if WhatsApp makes use of usernames and relates them to phone numbers, just the way DNS works.

WhatsApp can only be used on one device at a time:

Hard luck if you have a second smartphone or a tablet or a PC. WhatsApp can only be activated on one device. WhatsApp web is pretty much useless. Think WhatsApp's parent Facebook or Google's Hangouts, both of them can be used on multiple devices independently. It gets better with Telegram. The messenger can be used on all your devices at the same time - your messages sync seamlessly across any number of your phones, tablets or computers.

WhatsApp isn't secure:

WhatsApp's chat logs are stored on SD cards and can be easily read by other apps since majority of the people give all the access to the apps on their phones. msnTarGet.com The WhatsAppp database is a SQLite3 database which can be converted to Excel for easier access. Lately WhatsApp is using encryption to encrypt the database, so it can no longer be opened by SQLite. But, it can still be decrypted using a simple python script.

WhatsApp shares your data:

Controversy around Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data leak hasn't died down yet and WhatsApp, being part of Facebook, also has to share a burden. The platform has lost a lot of trust. WhatsApp has access to call records, it can see your pictures and listen to your audio recordings. WhatsApp also shares this data with its parent company Facebook.

hatsApp chats are end-to-end encrypted. This means that your chats can be read only by you and the person you are chatting with, and nobody in between can read them. But if you have an intruding roommate or live in a house full of relatives, chances are this encryption won't be of much use to you because your phone can be physically accessed by them.

I have met people who borrow your phone saying they need to make a call or simply drop a text to someone but they secretly scroll through your phone's photo gallery and WhatsApp chats also. MsnTarGet.CoM In that case it becomes a little difficult to hide your personal and private chats that contain words or graphics which you may not be comfortable showing around in your house.

Of course, phone lock is the best way to keep your chats protected. There are also app locks that can lock the apps you want. But if you are too lazy to go through the process of setting up a phone lock system or app locker for just one WhatsApp chat, here's something for you MsntarGet.com. WhatsApp gives you an option to hide your chat without deleting it. This means you can keep your personal chats safe and read whenever you feel like. No need to delete it. Also, you can do this with both group chats and private chats.

The feature is called Archive chats. WhatsApp Archive chats allows you to hide a conversation from your Chats screen and access it later, if needed. MsnTarget.Com You can archive both groups or individual chats. Using Archive Chat does not delete the chat or back it up to your SD card. The archived chats will be got to a separate folder within WhatsApp which appears at the bottom of the window. Note that archived chats will reappear when you receive a new message from that conversation.

To archive a chat, follow these steps:

  • In the Chats screen, tap and hold the chat you wish to hide (msntarget.com).
  • On the top bar, select the Archive icon.
Your chat is now archived and will not show up on your Chats screen.

To unarchive a chat:

  • Scroll to the bottom of the Chats screen.
  • Tap Archived chats.
  • Tap and hold the chat that you wish to unarchive.
  • On the top bar, select the Unarchive icon.

To archive all chats:

Facebook-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp recently introduced the Stickers option. The new feature allows users to send and receive stickers while chatting just like we do in Messenger and other instant messaging apps. In the beginning, there was only a few stickers pack available including the pre-installed one. However, users can download more stickers using the built-in Sticker store. The Sticker store also offers the option to download new stickers from the Google Play Store.

There are several third-party apps and stickers packs available to download, but you’ll rarely find one that you would actually like to share among your friends and family. What if, there’s a way that let you create your own Sticker pack or allows you to convert your photos or selfies into WhatsApp Stickers. Sounds interesting? Them here’s our ready-to-use-guide for you.

WhatsApp Stickers were released this year as a 'new way for people to express themselves with stickers'. "Whether with a smiling teacup or a crying broken heart, stickers help you share your feelings in a way that you can't always express with words. To start, we're launching sticker packs created by our designers at WhatsApp and a selection of stickers from other artists," the company had said in a blog post.

Facebook-owned instant messaging platform, WhatsApp has become highly popular across the world and has over one billion downloads just on Google Play Store. Add to that the downloads on Apple's App Store and WhatsApp stands way ahead of any other messaging app. 2018 was an important year for the company as it tackled the criticism for not being able to stop the spread of fake news while bringing in new features and updates for the users. Most of these features like WhatsApp Stickers, forward label and group calls were welcomed by the users.

In 2018, WhatsApp also made its debut on feature phones with Reliance JioPhone 2. The device introduced the platform to feature phone users and, soon Reliance Jio also extended the support for the social social messaging app on to JioPhone as well.

However, in a big setback, the good days for some users might be over soon as the company has announced a list of operating systems for which it will soon end support. The list includes all the devices running on Nokia S40. The company has made it clear that the users won’t be able to use WhatsApp on this operating system from December 31, 2018. The users also need to keep in mind that WhatsApp has stopped developing features for this platform which means that some existing features too can stop working at any time on devices running Nokia S40.

Apart from this, WhatsApp has also announced that it will end support for Android versions 2.3.7 and older as well as iPhone iOS 7 and older after February 1, 2020.

The company said that this decision was taken as it won't be developing features for these platforms in future. WhatsApp added that it wants to focus on mobile platforms that will used by majority users for next seven years.

"The decision was taken because we will no longer be actively developing for these platforms and some features might stop functioning at any time. When we look ahead to our next seven years, we are looking to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms that a vast majority of people use. These platforms/phones don't offer the kind of capabilities WhatsApp needs to expand its features in the future," WhatsApp said in a statement.

Last year, WhatsApp had ended support for Windows Phone 8.0, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 on December 31, 2017.

WhatsApp Stickers - a feature that was released earlier this year by the Facebook-owned instant messaging app - has become a huge hit among the users. In fact, the most searched ‘how to’ in India in 2018 was the "how to send stickers on WhatsApp." The feature became more popular after the social media giant introduced a Diwali sticker pack, especially designed for the Indian users. Now, to enhance the user experience, the platform has come up with a new feature to make its users' Christmas and New Year celebrations better than ever before.

The new update allows the users to personalise their WhatsApp stickers. The messaging app will now allow the users to convert any image and selfie into a sticker and send it to their friends, relatives, and colleagues. For this, the users will have to download and use ‘Sticker Studio – Sticker Maker for WhatsApp’.

With over 220 million active users, WhatsApp is unarguable one of the most used applications in India, being used not just for texting, but also voice and video calling, conferencing and even making transactions.

2018 has, however, been a tough year for the instant messaging platform as it came under scrutiny for the spread of fake news and misinformation.

Nevertheless, we saw a bunch of new features on the application that do make the chatting experience much better. Here are some of them:

What were some of the new features WhatsApp introduced in 2018? Here’s a list

From stickers to letting users know about how much data it collects, here are some of the top features that were introduced by WhatsApp in 2018. What were some of the new features WhatsApp introduced in 2018? Here’s a list
From stickers to letting users know about how much data it collects, here are some of the top features that were introduced by WhatsApp in 2018. What were some of the new features WhatsApp introduced in 2018? Here’s a list

WhatsApp stickers

Possibly the biggest feature from WhatsApp this year, stickers were also one of the top searched things on Google.

While what it does is very simple, it’s very vibrant and dynamic in doing so. Other instant messaging platforms have had this feature for quite a while, but WhatsApp made it available only recently, in October.

You can find WhatsApp stickers in an icon right next to the emoji and GIF icons in the emoji menu. You are then greeted with three tabs—one with your recent stickers, second with your favourites and the third containing all the stickers. There’s also a “plus” icon in the corner that allows you to add more stickers to WhatsApp via a sticker store.

You can also make your own WhatsApp stickers by using the guide present on WhatsApp’s blog.

This might require some amount of experience with Adobe Photoshop and basic image editing. The stickers need to have a resolution of exactly 512x512 pixels and should have a file size of less than 100kb. We are sure once you get the hang of it, you’ll be making memes in no time.

WhatsApp data collection

Data privacy has become a major concern mainly after some major tech companies were shown to compromise user data without their consent. To address this and meet EU’s data privacy guidelines, WhatsApp started offering the users the ability to download all the data that the platform has collected on them. You can see the data gathered by WhatsApp by going to Settings > Account > Request Account Info. Then you will be redirected to a page where you have to click Request Report.

WhatsApp group calling

WhatsApp calling has been around for nearly two years now, but the instant messaging app only recently launched the WhatsApp video and voice group calling feature to its users. With the help of this feature, users can make conference calls with up to four participants. WhatsApp also recently introduced a button that lets users make conference calls with the tap of a button.

WhatsApp UPI payments

The most underrated feature of this year. The feature first made its way to beta in February and has been stuck there ever since. WhatsApp users with the final build can get a taste of it through invitations sent by people currently using the feature.

The feature uses United Payments Interface to make payments instantly, be it sending, receiving or even requesting money.

Since it hasn’t received an official approval from the Reserve Bank of India, WhatsApp has restricted this feature to beta and invitations. But I personally find it extremely convenient since having a payments interface on a chat app doesn’t require installing another app. The registration process is also very straightforward, even for first time users. And not to forget the massive reach WhatsApp has in India.

Picture-in-Picture

When you click on a video link sent by someone on WhatsApp, the system instantly triggers the corresponding app to open. With the PiP feature, you can watch the videos in a box hovering over the chat window, saving you multiple taps on the recents button. The feature works with third-party video apps like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Tumblr . You can confirm whether the media supports PiP (or not) by looking out for a blurred version of the thumbnail as well as the platform logo. If it’s present, it means the content supports PiP.

“Forwarded” label and forwarding restrictions

WhatsApp was in the government’s radar for several incidents related to fake news and misinformation this year. To address the issue, WhatsApp put up restrictions on message forwarding like removing the quick forward button which was present right next to media messages.

Further, it also added a “forwarded” label in front every message forwarded by you or other users. While it seems like a serious action, it is still to be seen how much of an impact these features have made to curb the spread of misinformation and fake news.

Group chats

The interface of WhatsApp groups received quite a few important updates, mainly centred around group administrators and creators. WhatsApp added group descriptions and the ability to remove admins from a group. Group creators can also restrict the admins they choose

Media visibility in library

Till June, photos, videos or audio messages received on WhatsApp showed up in the library. There were a few workarounds, but not everyone wants their image gallery to be filled with good morning messages.

WhatsApp fixed this behaviour by introducing a feature that lets users define which media shows up in their media library.

WhatsApp allows users to use the instant messaging application on desktop through WhatsApp Web. The web.whatsapp.com allows you to mirror your WhatsApp on the desktop by scanning QR code. The extension automatically syncs all your messages on your phone and even lets you send and receive text messages, videos and photos.

WhatsApp Web has become smarter with new features. Just this week, WhatsApp added picture-in-picture update for desktop users. The feature allows users to watch shared videos right within the application. Right now, WhatsApp Web supports PiP mode for shared videos and is likely to add support for videos shared via Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.

After finally introducing the Picture-in-Picture feature for Android users in India, WhatsApp is all set to roll out the feature for WhatsApp Web as well. This feature has been in testing mode for Android since October and until now, it was in the beta stage. The Picture-in-Picture feature on WhatsApp was only available for the iPhone users since the beginning of this year.

According to media reports, the Facebook-owned messaging app is rolling out PiP mode in phases for WhatsApp Web users globally with the latest version 0.3.1846. The users do not have to install the update manually, instead, the PiP mode would be automatically updated once the update is available.

To get this feature on smartphone, the Android users will have to update their WhatsApp to the latest version via Google Play store. Users will automatically enjoy the feature after updating the app.

WhatsApp will soon allow money transfer using cryptocurrency - 5 WhatsApp features introduced in 2018 that made life easy

5 WhatsApp features introduced in 2018 that made life easy!

The year is about to end and it is time to look back at everything that happened over the last 12 months. For WhatsApp, 2018 was certainly an eventful year as the Facebook-owned messaging platform introduced a number of new features to enhance user experience even as it faced continuous criticism for being unable to stop the spread of fake news. India is currently the biggest market for the company with about 220 million active users and it left no stone unturned to reach out to them in the best way possible including the roll out of a special Diwali Stickers pack

Here are five features introduced by WhatsApp in 2018 that made life easy:

WhatsApp will soon allow money transfer using cryptocurrency - 5 WhatsApp features introduced in 2018 that made life easy

1. Picture-in-Picture mode

The PiP feature allows users to watch Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube videos in a small window from the chat window itself. The feature was rolled out for the iOS devices in January this year and was made available to Android users in December. The feature only supports video link from the above-mentioned platforms only.

2. Forward label

In a bid to stop the spread of fake news on the platform, WhatsApp introduced the forward label which appears next to any message that has been forwarded by the users. The step was taken to stop the spread of misinformation but it is still unclear if it has made an impact.

3. Features for group chats

WhatsApp Groups received many new features in 2018 that gave more control to admins and creators. The platform allowed admins to add description to groups. The group creators were given the option of dismissing group admins using the “Dismiss As Admin” option.

4. WhatsApp Stickers

The feature that made the strong buzz in 2018 was Stickers. WhatsApp finally introduced Stickers on its platform in October, after months of speculation. Initially, the app gave users access to a few stickers and added support to download more company's Stickers Store.

5. Group calls

Another big feature introduced in 2018 was Group calling - both video and audio. The feature arrived on the platform in August after being tested for a month. The group calling feature allows up to four people to talk at one time.

Wow! WhatsApp will soon allow money transfer using cryptocurrency - What Facebook is working on

Facebook Inc. is reportedly working on a cryptocurrency for WhatsApp which will allow the users of the messaging platform to transfer money. This comes months after it was reported that the social media giant wants to launch its own cryptocurrency. A Bloomberg report quoted people familiar with the matter saying that the company is focusing first on the remittances market in India. Facebook is believed to be developing a StableCoin which is a type of digital currency pegged to the U.S. dollar - to minimize volatility.

The sources added that Facebook is far from releasing the coin, because it is still working on the strategy, including a plan for custody assets, or regular currencies that would be held to protect the value of the stablecoin. Earlier this year in May, it was reported that Facebook has been working on the idea for about a year now and is very serious about it.

A Cheddar website had reported that, Facebook started studying blockchain almost a year ago, when a member of its corporate development team, Morgan Beller, began looking at how the social platform could use the emerging technology. Beller was the only Facebook employee devoted to studying blockchain, the digital and decentralized ledger that underpins cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Reportedly, Beller’s work was thrust into the spotlight this week when Facebook announced that the vice president in charge of the Messenger app, David Marcus, would lead a new team to “explore how to best leverage blockchain across Facebook, starting from scratch.”

Considering Facebook is looking to use cryptocurrency for allowing users to transfer money on WhatsApp, this reminds that the company is already is in process of releasing its own payment option on this messaging app

NCPI, the umbrella body for all digital payments in the country allowed social media-giant WhatsApp to roll out a beta testing of their payment services.

Almost 1 million people are testing WhatsApp Payment services and not only the company is further working with government and multiple banks in even enhancing the feature to more users. This WhatsApp payment service is expected to be launched soon in India which will compete against most digital payment app Paytm.

When and how will Facebook launch its own cryptocurrency and make it available to transfer money via WhatsApp will be keenly watched. It is noteworthy that, once the WhatsApp payment app kick starts in India, there can be possibility soon for the cryptocurrency development. How these two key factors of Facebook goes hand in hand will be keenly watched.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has become a hotbed for spreading misinformation, hate messages and even running organised crime in India. While WhatsApp has surely helped internet users globally to communicate easily, in India, WhatsApp groups have played a key role in spreading misinformation with the intention to incite violence. With WhatsApp claiming to be a complete end-to-end encrypted chatting platform, what very few people know is that WhatsApp collects metadata about every user which the company can share with law enforcement agencies when demanded. While the messages are encrypted, if the police wants then they can get your name, IP address, mobile number, location, mobile network and your mobile handset type. The police can also get to know with whom you are chatting, for how long and at what time. Also, the police can access your contacts as well. While there are no separate laws for WhatsApp users in the country, the police can arrest you with the support of WhatsApp if you do any of the following under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
