Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai launched their hatchbacks almost at the same time in the Indian markets. With a lot of upgrades and improvements, both cars seem to go all out in the battle for being the best hatchback in the market. However, there is one more to compete with the two and that is the Tata Tiago.

Since there are a lot of variants for each model, we would be considering the top line petrol variant for reference. In terms of engine size, the WagonR is evenly matched by Tiago as both have a 1.2-litre engine, though the Tiago has one cylinder less. Despite that, the Tiago makes the most power at 84 bhp, followed by the WagonR with 82 bhp, and Santro taking third place at 69 bhp.

The Hyundai Santro is considered one of the safest in the segment and is armed with features like ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program and central locking, among others. The Tata Tiago loses out on central locking while the WagonR follows suit with fewer features.

As Jalopnik’s resident car buying expert and professional car shopper, I get emails. Lots of emails. I’ve decided to pick a few questions and try to help out. This week we are discussing the best place to list your used car, getting a used Lexus vs a new Toyota, and warranties on salvage cars.
Where Is the Best Place to List a Used Car For Sale?
Where Is the Best Place to List a Used Car For Sale?

Where Is the Best Place to List a Used Car For Sale?

First up, is there one best place to list your car for sale?
I’m looking to sell our minivan and am not getting bites on Craigslist (our price is probably too high, but that’s a different issue). I don’t buy used cars and really don’t know which sites are best in which to list them on. Yeah, last time I was in the market for a used car I grabbed one of my brother’s AutoTrader magazines printed on newsprint in black & white, back in the 80's.
Is there a guide on which sites to use? Got suggestions? I’m thinking of Ebay Motors,, Autotrader, etc.

Craigslist is a good place to start, it’s free and if you have something on the lower end of the market, say under $15,000, CL usually will get you good results if the car is priced right. However, a lot of folks don’t realize that the large third party listing sites like Autotrader,, CarGurus, etc...all have pretty reasonable prices for listings. will give you a free listing with up to five images for 30 days and most basic listing packages range between $25 to $50 on a variety of sites.

You mentioned good old-fashioned print listings and, depending on the car you have and your local market, you may want to put an ad in a local paper or used car guide. There are still a lot of folks (okay, Olds) looking for cheap cars that aren’t the most tech-savvy and are and still peruse the local classifieds. However, sometimes these ads can be kind of pricey. The goal here is to maximize the amount of eyeballs on your used car but not spend a ton of money doing so.

If you have something that’s not that old and you want to move it quickly, startups like Vroom and Carvana will sometimes buy your car without having to buy one of theirs, and will even pick it up. Both sites have online evaluators to give you a ballpark as to what you can expect.

But is it better to buy a used luxury car or a new mainstream model?
I’m a guy who buys and holds cars for years; I’m still driving (a) 2002 Yukon and my wife a 2005 Prius. She wants and really needs a new car. I was leaning toward 2019 Honda CRV or 2019 Toyota RAV4. I just read about Honda engine problems so I’m thinking Toyota. BUT...would a late model RX350 be a worthy contender? There’s no way I spring for new one.
It all depends on your budget and priorities in regards to tech. The Toyota RAV4 is going to have the most up-to-date infotainment and safety features (within the Toyota lineup). Lexus will give you some of the features, but cars that are two or three years old don’t have things like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto or the latest advanced safety features. But if you aren’t as concerned about that stuff and just want something comfortable, reliable, and a little bigger a used/CPO Lexus would be a good option.

And finally, does a salvage title void any warranty balance?

I live in California, I’m not very familiar with purchasing a salvage vehicle. I’m trying to buy a secondary car for under 10k. There is a 16 Malibu for sale in the 10k region in my area. The guy who is selling the car says the car didn’t have much damage on it when he bought it in the auction, the car was impacted between the driver side doors. The car currently has about 30k miles on it. I’ve read that some people have had a good experience with their salvage title vehicles. The engine seems to be in perfect conditions. Unfortunately, I’ve read that 16 Malibus and Cruzes have a common problem when it comes to engine misfire being caused by bad pistons. This issue was present on the 1.5 turbo engines. My question is, do salvage vehicles maintain their powertrain warranty when such known issue is known? I ask because say I purchase the vehicle and down the line, the issue comes up. The car seems to be a great offer, but this issue worries me.

I usually recommend avoiding salvage title cars at all costs, especially if it is meant to be a daily driver. If you are going to buy a cheap salvaged Lotus and turn it into a race car, that’s another story. Of course, you can pick up a car that is generally pretty good despite having the salvage issue, but you need to be extremely careful. Always get cars like this inspected by an independent mechanic to spot any severe trouble spots.

And as for the warranty issue, I relayed this question to consumer protection attorney and friend of Jalopnik, Steve Lehto. “Check the warranty language to be sure but most companies void warranties on salvage vehicles. It’s not the damage that matters, it’s the designation,” he said.

Good advice.

Motorola Moto Z2 Play Review [With Video]: With Moto Mods, It’s the Real Flagship Killer

Moto Z phones along with Moto Mods were a welcome break from the regular spec sheet race last year. While the ‘modular’ Moto Z series phones are competitively priced, Moto Mods are expensive. To this, Managing Director of Motorola Mobility India Sudhin Mathur said, “Innovation comes at a price. You decide whether you want more RAM or something really new and innovative.”

While the older Moto Z Play smartphone is still selling for Rs 24,999, the second generation, Moto Z2 Play, offers a better design and upgraded hardware for the price of Rs 27,999. Both the Moto Z Play phones essentially focus on the overall "modular" experience in a budget rather than just a mere spec-sheet comparisons. So, what can a first-time Moto Mod user expect and should Moto Z Play users upgrade to the latest edition? Let’s find out in this review.

google docs to wordpressWe love WordPress, but it can also be frustrating sometimes when it doesn’t work flawlessly with another platform or integration. A lot of you are business owners and bloggers which have to deal with content creation for your sites on a regular basis. More often than not this is done via Google Docs because it is super easy for people to share drafts and collaborate in real-time for free. However, when it comes to moving from Google Docs to WordPress, this is where things get messy, as much of your formatting is lost or breaks. And it soon becomes a WordPress publisher’s nightmare. Check out these four tricks to help make working with Google Docs and WordPress a little easier.

The Issue With Google Docs and WordPress

It is no question that Google Docs is probably one of the most popular platforms when it comes to online document sharing and editing. Microsoft Office 365 is really its only competitor. In fact, if we take a look at Google Trends for “Google Docs,” you can see that over the past 5 years interest around it has been steadily increasing. Google Docs is completely free to use and that is why it has become a popular tool for content creators, bloggers, and writers.

So let’s dive into the real issue. Let’s say you hire a writer to put together an article for your blog. They put together the draft in a Google Doc and send you a link so you can take a look and approve it. Perhaps you make a few edits and then are ready to move it into your WordPress site. Typically you would simply copy and paste the contents from your Google Doc into the WordPress visual editor. But what happens, in reality, is that this results in all sorts of formatting issues.
Below is an example Google Doc we are going to use. So we select all the content and copy it to our clipboard.

Google Doc example
We then go over to our WordPress editor and paste it. The first issue you have is that typically there will be extra line breaks in-between paragraphs, even though in the Google Doc there is literally only one line break.

It gets worse though, if we take a look at the text and or code view of it, here is what it looks like. You can see that all of this extra unecessary code is being added.

Google Docs to WordPress span style issue
Extra lines breaks are being added inserting this code.
When you copy from Google Docs to WordPress it creates extra span styles everywhere.
<span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span>
When you copy from Google Docs to WordPress and have lists it creates extra font-weights styles.
<li style="font-weight: 400;">
So basically you are left with a mess in your code. And even if you ignore the code, which you shouldn’t, you would still have the line breaks everywhere. On a 2,000+ document this is a lot of backspacing to be done to fix it. And your are still left with underlying code which really should be fixed. This is a huge waste of time. It can also affect your performance. Yes, it is at a very minimal level, but even HTML makes up your overall total page weight. So what can you do about it? Well, follow the tricks below.
Note: It is important to know that Office 365 Word doesn’t have the same issue with span styles and font weight. However, it still has the spacing issues when copying across to the WordPress editor. Also, you might be wondering about images. Images don’t copy across either, but you should generally upload those separately anyways. Images should be compressed, as well as strategically naming the file for SEO purposes. That’s right, even image files names matter when it comes to SEO.

Google Docs to WordPress

It’s kind of surprising that these issues are still happening 2017, and we are curious why they aren’t being discussed more in the WordPress community. We personally know a lot of you writers out there are using Google Docs. We use it as well. Thankfully, there are a few tricks you can use to make your workflow from Google Docs to WordPress less painful and streamlined.

1. Trick to Clear Formatting

The first little trick is a little weird, but it works, and involves a simple copy and paste a couple times along with utilizing the clear formatting button. Follow the steps below to get quickly clean up the formatting.
Retain Google Docs to #WordPress formatting with this simple trick! 😂 Click to Tweet

Step 1

Copy and paste the contents from Google Docs into your WordPress Visual Editor as normal. Select your text and copy it again to your clipboard.

Step 2

It sounds weird, but create a new temporary blank post draft by clicking into “Add New” under posts in your dashboard. Then paste the content again from your first post that you just copied. When you paste this the second time it will automatically clean up the extra line breaks.

Step 3

Then copy and paste the contents from your temporary draft back into your original post. Highlight all of the content and click on the “Clear formatting” button in the visual toolbar editor. This will remove the span styles, and font weights. This trick retains all of the headers (h1, H2, H3, etc.). The only thing it doesn’t retain is the bold. If you need to retain every 100%, then check out trick 2 and 3.

And here is an example of the text and or code view after the steps above. As you can see, it is as clean as a whistle.

Now you can continue to work with writers and bloggers using Google Docs and it won’t slow down your workflow. All it takes is a simple copy and paste a couple times and using the clear formatting button.
For some of you, this may not matter that much. But for those of you who use both Google Docs and WordPress a lot, this might just be a lifesaver! We use this trick ourselves every day. When we originally went to find a solution we even were going as far as converting to Markdown and then moving back into WordPress. Little did we know, all it took was a simple copy and paste, plus clearing the formatting, which gets you to almost near perfect.

2. Use Wordable to Easily Move Google Docs to WordPress

The second option you have is to use a premium service called Wordable. This was actually created for the very problem we described above, and that is, there has not been a good solution to move Google Docs to WordPress. Basically with Wordable you can draft and collaborate in Google Docs as normal. When you are ready, there is a one-click button import to your WordPress site. It retains all your tags, headers, bold, bullets, italics, and even your images.
They have a free plan which allows you to give it a try. It comes with unlimited free exports for 24 hours and 2 free exports after that. You can hook it up to one WordPress site. If you need more exports and the ability to export to multiple WordPress sites the premium version is $19/month. While this does sound costly, if you use Google Docs on a daily basis, this service definitely pays for itself.
The two possible cons for some is that you have to give them access to your Google Drive as well as your WordPress site (with the plugin). This might be an issue for those concerned with security. We would personally love to see a 3rd party, standalone exporter. Follow the steps below on how to easily export from Google Docs to WordPress.

Step 1

Sign up over at Wordable for a free account. It will ask for permission to your Google Drive.

Step 2

Add your WordPress site under Settings and download and install the plugin.

Step 3

Search for the document in your Google Drive list and click on “Export to WordPress.” This will create a draft of the article on your WordPress site.

Step 4

Click on the “Published as Draft” link or visit your WordPress dashboard to examine the post.

And here is how it looks in the WordPress editor. All the formatting came across perfectly, no extra code. And even the image came across.

Also, as far as the images goes, when you upload an image to Google Docs, it actually does retain its filename. So if you instruct writers beforehand to name their images for SEO purposes, it will then follow through if you are exporting using Wordable.  Otherwise, if they don’t. We would recommend re-uploading all of your images, which could be a pain.

Images exported from Wordable also go directly to your WordPress media library which means they can be compressed with a third party image optimization plugin. As you can see, Wordable can be a very fast and effective option if you need something to export from Google Docs to WordPress and retain all the formatting.

3. Jetpack and Chrome Extension

Another solution is to use Jetpack, along with their free Chrome extension. One thing to be aware of though is that JetPack does add additional requests to your site, and it requires things such as XML-RPC and the JSON API to be enabled for it to function.

Step 1

You can download Jetpack from the WordPress repository, or by searching for it within your WordPress dashboard under “Add New” plugins.

Step 2

Upon activation you will need to connect Jetpack to

Step 3

Then install the free to Google Docs Chrome extension. You will have to give it permission to access your documents.

Step 4

Then in Google Docs click on “Add-ons” and select “ for Google Docs.” Then on the right hand side you can click on “Save” and it will create a post in your WordPress site.

4. Give Writers a WordPress Account

The last option you have is to simply create WordPress accounts for your writers and require that they create everything entirely within the WordPress editor. For some, this might be a better solution, but there are also a lot of companies that don’t want to have to worry about managing author accounts.
WordPress essentially contains six different user roles. For authors and writers you will probably want to choose one of the following, based upon what you want them to have access to:
  • Author: somebody who can publish and manage their own posts.
  • Contributor: somebody who can write and manage their own posts but cannot publish them.
To create an account for a writer simply click on “Add New” under Users in your WordPress dashboard and assign the role you want them to have.

Give writer access to your site
You could even take this a step further with a permissions plugin like the User Role Editor. But even with correct roles and permissions setup, letting more people access to your WordPress dashboard still weakens your overall security. Just make sure you are careful when adding accounts for people you don’t know.

If you work with writers who use Google Docs a lot, or perhaps you are a writer, hopefully, one of the above tricks and recommendations will help speed up your workflow. And perhaps one day we can simply copy and paste directly from Google Docs to WordPress without having to do anything! The team at Wordable definitely have the right idea going.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For 2019, the Lexus ES is all new and marks the seventh generation of the Japanese nameplate's entry-level luxury four-door. We're happy to report that the redesign brings some very welcome attributes, and the 2019 Lexus ES does everything you'd want an entry-level luxury vehicle to do. Performance, no matter which of the two drivetrain options you choose, is respectable, interior comfort is on par with a Restoration Hardware sofa you'd spend real money on, handling is communicative, and most important for a Lexus, it's serenely quiet inside. While these are great attributes, there are a few places we wish Lexus had spent more energy revamping.
Through the humid hill country just outside Nashville, on a mix of the congested city arteries and the flowing switchbacks of Tennessee's forested interior, we put the ES through its paces. The 2019 ES is based on Toyota's TNGA platform, which underpins both the latest Avalon and Camry models. Perhaps that'd constitute a knock in a previous era, but the new Camry chassis is a rollicking peach compared to some others in its class. It's rigid enough for a windy road dance, but compliant enough for daily-driver duties. Even better, Lexus engineers improved the TNGA platform for use in the ES. A 200 percent increase in stiffness over the previous ES is due in part to a liberal use of structural adhesives and laser-welded screws. The front strut towers are reinforced, and topped with a brace between them.
2019 Lexus ES First Drive Review | Entry-level luxury that wants to have fun
This extra attention to detail pays dividends that include a smoother ride and better handling. New adaptive Dynamic Control Shocks quietly smooth out bumps and undulations, allowing us to wind through the rural backcountry roads confidently, and the steering gives better feedback than we'd expect from a vehicle like the Lexus ES. Pushing the big sedan into one of the many hilly, and often blind, corners along our route elicits only a minute amount of body roll. But chassis improvements aren't the only upgrade from the previous model. The 2019 Lexus ES comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 delivering 302 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 267 pound-feet of torque at 4,700 rpm. This represents a bump of 34 hp and 19 lb-ft from the previous generation's V6. The engine is coupled to Lexus' new eight-speed automatic transmission, which is encased in a housing smaller than the brand's previous six-speed automatic.
The transaxle has been tuned to provide drivers with a more linear and smooth power delivery, thereby increasing the overall luxury feel of the ES. More environmentally conscious customers can opt for a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid. While its 215 horsepower figure is sufficient, its big selling point is an average fuel economy of 44 mpg. The electrified powerplant is hitched to the brand's Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission, which is packaged more efficiently just like the non-hybrid's eight-speed automatic. While either engine option will tackle winding roads like those we encountered in Tennessee without issue, the bigger V6 pulls like a champ and is certainly the better option for driving enthusiasts. While we were legitimately impressed by its cornering capabilities, there's a tradeoff to consider. The new ES is smooth enough to satisfactorily iron out pitted pathways and rough roads, but it doesn't feel as plush as competitors like the Lincoln MKZ or Genesis G70.
We're also not convinced that the interior is different enough from the Toyota Camry and Avalon to justify its expected price premium — Lexus was fuzzy with the numbers but gave us a ballpark. Though the ES does receive a new trim texture based on the finishes of a samurai's katana, if you were to compare interior shots of the Camry and the ES side by side, you'd find that the steering wheel, instrument display, starter button, transmission shifter, and lower console are interchangeable. It's only the infotainment screens, and some slightly higher-quality materials such as the leather seats, that differ significantly. This interior parts-sharing quandary has always been a fact of life for the ES, but these days it's hard not to drive an ES and cast a glance at the Avalon, if you can get past the badge. What's more, recent Lexus models like the LC 500 have really impressed us with excellent materials, design, craftsmanship, and attention to detail, and it's disappointing that more of the LC's special sauce didn't make it to the ES.
Still, during a particularly winding stretch through Natchez Trace State Park — which could be a lovely super-stage rally course — the Lexus ES actually urged us to bury the accelerator and have fun behind the wheel. That's not something we would have felt from the last ES. It may not be aimed explicitly at driving enthusiasts, but the 2019 Lexus ES handles well enough not to turn them off, has good power in V6 guise, returns fantastic gas mileage in hybrid form, and offers a comfy interior for the route to and from work. Ignore the Camry and Avalon, as we expect most Lexus buyers will, and the result is an admirable take on what could've likely been a bland offering served up to an undiscerning crowd. We just wish Lexus had been able to work in a bit more upmarket mojo inside.
