WhatsApp is bringing these 10 new notification channels to smartphones running Android Oreo
WhatsApp has not only optimised its app for Apple Carplay platform but is adapting to Android 8.0 Oreo features as well. The instant messenger has started showing notifications channels but to a limited people. This is because the feature has been spotted by Android Police inside the app's beta version for Android users on devices running Android 8.0 Oreo.
According to the website, the particular feature can be accessed if Android Oreo users are on WhatsApp beta v2.18.18. If you have all the checkboxes ticked, you'll see WhatsApp supporting 10 notifications channels. These include uncategorized, chat history backup, group notifications, sending media, message notifications, other notifications, silent notifications, critical app alerts, media playback and failure notifications. Each channel has multiple settings allowing users to set priority for each of these notifications. It is also possible to easily disable certain type of notifications.
All users need to do is to long press on the notification and disable it from the notification tray itself. There is also an option called 'All categories' from where it is possible to change the priority of such notifications. Although this feature is still in beta and on Android 8.0 Oreo handsets, it may take some time to reach majority of the Android users as most of them have not yet received the particular OS version. For those unaware, WhatsApp is already beta testing its platform with banking partners for built-in payment feature. Recently, the company also rolled out its WhatsApp for Business app. It is likely that the app too may have some kind of integration with the payments feature.
Reports say that WhatsApp will act as a top layer that will identify both the sender and the recipient at the back-end. It will also identify the bank account of the customers. The company has tied up with various leading banks in the country for the payment option. These reportedly include State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank.

Vivo Xplay7 - First Smartphone to Sport 10GB of RAM
Vivo has been known to push the boundaries when it comes to smartphone internals. Recent leaks suggest that the company's upcoming flagship phone might be powered by 10GB RAM, which, if true, will be the most ever seen on a smartphone.
Apart from that, the Vivo Xplay7 is also expected to feature a 4K OLED display, Snapdragon 845 SoC, up to 512GB storage, and an under-display fingerprint sensor. As we mentioned, a couple of leaks have surfaced on Weibo detailing specifications of Vivo's supposed upcoming Xplay7. The BBK-owned Chinese phone maker had launched its predecessor, the Vivo Xplay6, back in 2016. If these early reports are deemed to be true, we are looking at one of the best smartphones of 2018 - purely in terms of specifications.
The Vivo X20 Plus UD recently became the first smartphone to launch with an under-display fingerprint sensor. According to the images leaked online, the Xplay7 might also be secured with the Synaptics-powered fingerprint recognition technology.
With a Snapdragon 845 SoC expected, it will be Vivo's only phone since the Xplay6 to sport a Qualcomm flagship SoC. Talking about the cameras, the leaks reveal a dual rear camera setup with 4X optical zoom. The phone is rumoured to sport a 4K OLED display with a 92.9 percent screen-to-body ratio. It is expected to arrive in two storage variants - 256GB and 512GB - coupled with 10GB of RAM.
While Android OEMs have been pushing the barrier for the past few years, this might be the first instance when a smartphone comes with RAM capacity in double digits. There is currently no update on the pricing and availability but we expect it to be available in the coming weeks at a starting price of around $500 (roughly Rs. 31,800).

New Nokia 10 Reveals Risky And Ambitious Hardware
Not content with setting up a head-to-head with Samsung at next month’s Mobile World Congress, the team behind the return of the Nokia name to the smartphone world is reportedly preparing a stunning camera phone to dominate the second half of 2018. The presumptively named Nokia 10 will build on the experience from HMD’s first-generation handsets that have carved out a respected place in the smartphone world with an approach that focuses on delivering a pure Android experience with the core applications, alongside a commitment to applying the monthly security updates and major OS upgrades over a number of years.
Next month’s Mobile World Congress should see the last major handsets from this first-generation. The very low-cost Nokia 1 is expected to use Google’s Android Go variant for low-cost systems, while at the other end of the portfolio the Nokia 9 is expected to be the ‘big play’ from the Finns to capture the headlines away from the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus (or at least be mentioned and associated with Samsung’s leading smartphones in every comparison article coming out of Barcelona).
The Nokia 10 will take all of the corporate lessons, design notes, and consumer feedback, and roll it into the highest spec handset possible. It also looks like it will place a huge focus on imaging. The latest reports around the 10 suggest that a camera with five lenses, dual LED flash, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor will be paired with a SnapDragon 845 system on chip to create a monster phone built around imaging that will debut at Berlin’s IFA trade show in September.
HMD Global doesn’t have many advantages - it’s still a small startup fighting some big global manufacturers - but one unique advantage is the Nokia name and what it is associated with. Given the strong historical connection between the Nokia brand and smartphone imaging putting the focus of the second generation handset leader onto the camera plays to the strengths of the brand and Europe’s cultural memory.
