Google has 'introduced' the Wiz Phone WP006 during its 'Google for Indonesia' event on December 4 in Jakarta.

A few days ago, we got to hear the news of OnePlus partnering up with a premium automotive brand, McLaren. OnePlus had announced that it would be launching a special edition of its latest flagship, the OnePlus 6T in partnership with McLaren. The date for the launch of this new special edition device has been scheduled to be on December 12

Asus already confirmed that it’s holding an event in India on December 11. Everyone expected that the Zenfone Max Pro M2 would be unveiled at the event. Yes, the Max Pro M2 with Snapdragon 660 SoC will be launched at the event, but alongside that, the company will also be unveiling the Asus Zenfone Max M2 with Snapdragon 632 SoC. Of course, the Max Pro M2 will steal the limelight, but the Max M2, which is the successor to the Max M1 will sport the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC.

With the launch of JioPhone, Reliance Jio revived the feature phone market. The demand for feature phones has witnessed a massive increase in recent times. Now, various news reports claimed that the tech giant Google has launched a feature phone named Wiz Phone WP006. The phone is said to be the first 4G-feature phone in Indonesia.

The phone is being termed as JioPhone killer, when and if, it gets launched in India. The phone runs the KaiOS operating system, same as the JioPhone.

The news has taken internet by storm. It will be a huge step if the Mountain View giant steps-in in the feature phone market. However, you will be surprised to know that Google has not really launched the phone. If Google has not launched this phone, then what is the connection between the phone and the tech giant?

Before knowing this, you must know these developments which have occurred in the last one year.

Google has invested around $22 million in KaiOS, the feature phone operating system, in June this year. The move had left many people wondering why the tech giant invested in a feature phone OS.

Coming back to the news. Google has 'introduced' the Wiz Phone WP006 during its 'Google for Indonesia' event on December 4 in Jakarta. You may wonder if Google has not launched it, then why did it introduce the phone?

There are two reasons behind this. First, the phone claimed to be the first 4G feature phone in Indonesia, which runs on the KaiOS operating system that Google has invested a huge amount in. And second, Google has introduced a phone feature. The feature is Google Assistant. Yes, the Wiz Phone WP006 supports Google Assistant, much like the JioPhone.

Or you can understand it like this. Had Google introduced Google Assistant feature on JioPhone, would you have called it a feature phone by Google? No. However, this has happened in the case of the WizPhone.

The phone has been manufactured by WizPhone that has partnered with KaiOS. The phone is 4G enabled and has a 2.4-inch screen, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8905 chipset and is powered by 1800 mAh battery. The phone has been priced at $7.

However, the phone doesn't support WhatsApp as yet. KaiOS replied to a Twitter user that the company is working towards WhatsApp integration.

"Hey! We are aware of the importance of WhatsApp and are working on adding more apps and features in the near future. Stay tuned!," it said.

For now, the phone has been launched in Indonesia only.

Asus Zenfone Max M2: Confirmed Features and Specifications

While Asus confirmed that the Max M2 would be unveiled on December 11 in India, the smartphone has already been made available in Russia, alongside the Max Pro M2. The Asus Zenfone Max M2 will sports a 6.3-inch HD+ display, which is a step up from the 5.45-inch panel we saw on the Max M1, but the resolution is similar. At the heart of the phone, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC, clubbed with 3GB, 4GB of RAM and 32GB, 64GB of internal storage. It will be interesting to see which variants will Asus launch in the country.

The Zenfone Max M2 will house a notch on top of the display, and it will rock dual rear cameras of 13MP+2MP. The front-facing camera on the Max M2 will be an 8MP one. The phone will have the same 4000mAh battery as its predecessor. To recall, the Max M1 arrived with Snapdragon 430 SoC, single rear camera and Zen UI based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The Max M2 will run stock Android out of the box, like the Max Pro M2.

Asus Zenfone Max M2 vs Max M1: What’s Different?

As mentioned, Max M2 is already official in Russia and is listed on the company’s official website. Asus might make some changes to the specs, but the core hardware could remain the same for the Indian market. So the Max M2 will a major upgrade to the Max M1 which was released just a couple of months ago. The Zenfone Max M1 sports a 5.45-inch HD+ display, Snapdragon 430 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, dedicated microSD card slot, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera, Zen UI on top of Android 8.0 Oreo and a 4000mAh battery.

While it’s a major upgrade over its predecessor, there will be a price bump as well. We’re expecting the phone to retail at a starting price of Rs 10,999 or even Rs 9,999 is a possible price.

He also announced that they will have the first flagship smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 855.

Lau talked about how OnePlus started with the Snapdragon 801 in the OnePlus One and they have used Qualcomm 800-series chips in every device. A little bit about the 855, it will be manufactured on a 7nm process. It will be ready for 5G devices with the Snapdragon X50 modem. We’ve already heard a few reports of OnePlus launching a 5G phone in 2019, so this news lines up with that. One report claimed the 5G OnePlus device will not be the OnePlus 7.

Qualcomm hasn’t revealed all the details about the Snapdragon 855 yet. We know it includes the 4th-generation multi-core AI Engine, which boasts 3 times the AI performance as the Snapdragon 845. It also features the first Computer Vision Image Signal Processor (CV-ISP) to deliver new photo and video capture features. Snapdragon Elite Gaming is a set of features to enhance mobile gaming experiences. Lastly, the company announced the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor, which uses ultrasonic waves for in-display fingerprint scanners, unlike optical under-display fingerprint scanners, which use light.
Update: OnePlus just shared the tweet below. They will be partnering with EE to deliver a flagship 5G phone in “early 2019.”

OnePlus’ Biggest R&D Centre in Hyderabad

Although the company’s cellphone prices are steadily scaling new heights, the population of India is one of the biggest buyers of OnePlus cellphones. Hyderabad, known for being a technologically advanced city with a lot of talent to offer, has been finalized for the location of the R&D Centre.

OnePlus plans to incorporate with the ‘Make in India’ strategy and hire resources from top engineering colleges in India which like IIT Mumbai and IIT Delhi.

OnePlus founder Pete Lau said, “We plan to re-focus our R&D efforts on a large scale and drive innovations in India for the global product, especially on the software side with a special emphasis on artificial intelligence and machine learning.”

This is a good news for us Indians as the new R&D will definitely result in a boost in employment and productivity. Also, OnePlus has already commenced production of PCBs locally and other units required for a smartphone.

Oppo completes world’s first multiparty video call enabled by 5g

On the other hand, Oppo, the sibling company of OnePlus, became the world’s first company to complete a multiparty video call on a smartphone that supported 5g. This confirmed the progress the company has been making to be one of the first company in the world to launch 5g enabled smartphones in 2019.

Six engineers from the company’s R&D facilities all over the world were a part of the 17-minute video call made through the Chinese app WeChat.
Reports stated, “The video call was completed on an R15 Pro-Based 5g smartphone. For the 5G test, OPPO used Keysight’s UXM test set and 5G New Radio (NR) network emulation solutions for protocol and RF performance validation in sub-6GHz frequency bands (FR1).”

What with launching the biggest R&D facility in Hyderabad and Oppo breaking all records to complete the world’s first video call enabled by 5g, it is clear that technology is rapidly progressing and how!

OnePlus recently launched its latest flagship device, the OnePlus 6T which comes with some of the most impressive latest features and has been termed as the “flagship killer”. When the OnePlus 6T debuted in the Indian market, it witnessed massive sales online. The phone boots Android 9 Pie out of the box, with OnePlus’ custom OxygenOS on top of it. However, ever since the launch of the phone, OnePlus has been pushing incremental updates to the latest OxygenOS to make the UI and UX friendlier for the users. There have also been backend updates to the OxygenOS which improve performance and efficiency. Presently, OnePlus has also introduced the new OxygenOS 9.0.7 which brings updates to imaging, audio, wireless connectivity and power efficiency. Notably, the last update which was the OxygenOS 9.0.6 brought improvements to the in-display fingerprint scanner and the unlocking performance of the phone.

OxygenOS 9.0.7 Features and Improvements

The OxygenOS 9.0.7  update will be pushed to the users via the over-the-air (OTA) method and like every other update, it will also be rolled out to the users in a phased manner. OnePlus has also uploaded the changelog of the new update which outlines the new features and improvements which the Chinese OEM has brought onboard its latest flagship phone.

A significant improvement has been brought to the camera as part of the FPS slow-motion videos. Additionally, the company has also added an ‘Audio Tuner’ for Bluetooth wireless headphones. Using this feature, users of the phone will be able to fine-tune the audio settings whenever they are pairing their phone with wireless audio equipment.

Besides the improvements in audio and camera, the OxygenOS 9.0.7 Update also ships improvements in ‘System’ as well. The company has claimed that the new OxygenOS 9.0.7 update brings more stability to Bluetooth connection, and the same has been extended to Wi-Fi as well, thus ensuring better and stable connections on the phone.

Undoubtedly, the 3700mAh battery on the OnePlus 6T provides impressive standby time. However, OnePlus was still working to improve the efficiency of the phone and the standby time which the battery offered. Now with this new update, the OnePlus 6T offers improved standby power consumption, which has been implemented by an optimised background power consumption by apps and sensors. Also, in the previous update, OnePlus had optimised the in-display fingerprint sensor, whereas in the recent update OnePlus has reportedly fixed display issues for lock screen wallpaper.

OnePlus to Push New Update for Global Variant

OnePlus has also reported that this new update has been rolled out for the global variant of the OnePlus 6T and not the T-Mobile version. The OEM has also asserted that the update will be rolled out in a phased manner and will reach a handful of users in the first iteration, followed by a gradual rollout.

Interestingly, OnePlus has grown extensively as a brand in the last few years thanks to its reliable features, latest offerings, and timely software updates. The OEM has worked to provide an extremely user-friendly UI, the OxygenOS which provides just enough features for the users to make their phone experience top-notch. The manufacturer has also worked to provide timely and regular updates to its users to ensure a bug-free experience.

Although the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T users received the Android 9 Pie based OxygenOS update recently, the other OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users were left out of this rollout. Also, as per the declared timeline by OnePlus, the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users were slated to receive the OxygenOS based on Android 9 Pie a while ago. However, there have been delays in the rollout of the firmware. As a result, the users of these devices are venting out on Twitter and also posting on OnePlus forums regarding the delay in the rollout. To answer to the frustration of these users, a OnePlus representative announced that the update is almost out and urged the users to keep a little bit more patience.

Android 9 Pie for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T Users

Ever since the launch of its latest flagship phone the OnePlus 6T, the Chinese OEM has focused majorly on rolling out updates for its users of the newest smartphone. With the phone already out in the market, the manufacturer has pushed three software updates and is also on the task of bettering the experience of Android 9 Pie on the OnePlus 6T. However, in this pursuit, OnePlus has kept the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users on the sidelines, thus delaying the rollout of the Android 9 Pie based OxygenOS update for these users.

On the other hand, the company released the HydrogenOS Open Beta based on Android 9 Pie last week in China for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users. Going by the past trends of the company, usually, the rollout of HydrogenOS and OxygenOS remains a week apart. However, there has been an unprecedented delay in the rollout for the OxygenOS this time. Given that the HydrogenOS and the OxygenOS differ a lot and the former comes with all the features of the operating system barring the Google Play Services and other Google related apps on the phone, a sight delay also seems inevitable

To reach out to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users who have been eagerly waiting for these updates, OnePlus took the chance in its weekly update on the OnePlus forum. In its Week 258 update, a OnePlus representative wrote, “Some of you may have noticed that it has been three weeks since the last Open Beta build for OnePlus 5/5T. We’d like to shed some light that Pie for 5/5T is almost out for Open Beta.”

It’s worth noting that as part of the Open Beta programme, OnePlus usually delivers up to two updates in a month. However, in November, OnePlus hasn’t followed up with even a single update thus resulting in impatience for the users of OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. With this new announcement from OnePlus, there has been a sigh of relief for the users that have been waiting for the past few weeks. Now we expect OnePlus to push the OxygenOS Open Beta based on Android 9 Pie next week, while a stable build for the same will be pushed to the users in December or early January.

New Features Expected for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T Users

This update is going to be a significant one for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users as it will bring onboard the Android 9 Pie over their devices. Since OnePlus has invested a considerable amount of time into rolling out this update, we expect it to be mainly bug-free still having the Beta flag; users might see some little shortcomings. The new OxygenOS will bring a better UI along with some more features. Some of these will include the new navigation system as seen on the OnePlus 6 or 6T, camera improvements, notched up battery life, revamped caller ID and redesigned weather app among many others.

Recently OnePlus confirmed that the company will launch a smartphone supporting 5G connectivity. The rumors say that it’s not OnePlus 7, but an all new unnamed OnePlus series.

As per the latest leak, the smartphone will be priced around Rs 45,999.

OnePlus till now has been launching two phones a year. But from next year, as per the rumors, there are going to be three phones. The OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 5G phone.

OnePlus 5G Phone: What We Know So Far

The company will not add 5G to its next iteration OnePlus 7 due to pricing, so it is supposed to launch in an all-new series.  The alleged OnePlus series will have the first 5G phone from the company.

The upcoming OnePlus 5G smartphone will be powered by the yet to be announced Qualcomm flagship chipset: Snapdragon 8150 SoC.

The OnePlus 5G is also expected to come with the best of internals and hardware. The smartphone will launch during the first quarter of 2019, most probably at the upcoming MWC.

OnePlus hasn’t yet confirmed anything, but yes there’s a 5G OnePlus phone in the pipeline. OnePlus 7 cannot be priced in the bracket and hence this new phone is expected to come under an all-new series supporting 5G connectivity and Snapdragon 8510.

OnePlus 5G Phone Price | OnePlus 5G Phone Price In India

The latest leak says that the upcoming OnePlus 5G phone will cost around $100 more than the current OnePlus flagship. The OnePlus 6T comes at a starting price of Rs 37,999 and adding another $100 translates to around Rs 7,000 in extra.

So the upcoming OnePlus 5G phone in India will come at a starting price of Rs 45,999.

Adding 5G internals to the phone will substantially add up to the total cost forcing OnePlus to increase the overall price. OnePlus is going to be one of the first few manufacturers in the world to launch a 5G supported phone next year.

OnePlus Roaming Launched: Global SIM-Free Data Service

OnePlus has launched a global SIM-free data service to be available with OnePlus phones. The latest Oxygen OS beta update has this Roaming service which will work in most of the countries (as OnePlus said).

OnePlus Roaming can be activated with any package you purchase. The data package and price will vary from country to country.

How OnePlus Roaming Works?

The OnePlus Roaming service provides you with an option to access data without a local SIM card. You need to purchase a data package in advance to get data access, and you won’t need any local SIM card in your phone. You have to purchase package initially in the given list to get access later.

The purchases will be available in the ordered list, which you can activate after arriving at your destination.

How OnePlus Roaming Is Different Than Other Carriers?

You don’t need a local SIM card to get access to OnePlus Roaming. Also, you will not be able to use any SIM service like a direct phone call or message to any contact. Unlike other roaming plans offered by different carriers, the OnePlus Roaming only comes with data access.

You can do anything you do with your mobile data. You can use WhatsApp or Facebook or Google Duo to make call. There are a lot of other ways to connect over the internet, and hopefully you have a better idea at it.

The OxygenOS Open Beta is currently available for OnePlus 6 users only. The update has been rolled out via an OTA. Users who still have not received the update can download it here.

Two very interesting news has come up, which concerns Nokia and OnePlus smartphones. As per an exclusive news, it has been revealed that Nokia 8.1 can launch on November 28th, and its price can be Rs 23,999. It has been earlier rumored that Nokia X7 can be rebranded as Nokia 8.1 in India.

Meanwhile, as per another rumor, it has been revealed that OnePlus 7, the successor of recently launched OnePlus 6T won’t have 5G. This can be a major blow to those users, who were waiting for OnePlus 7 to be launched, and avoided buying OnePlus 6T.

Nokia 8.1: Expected Launch November 23rd!

Based on an exclusive report by 91Mobiles, it has been revealed that Nokia 8.1 will launch in India on November 28th, and its expected price will be Rs 23,999.

They have received some insider news from retailers, who have said that HMD Global, the parent company of Nokia’s mobile phone business, has finalized November 28th as the launch date of Nokia 8.1.

Please note, that HMD Global hasn’t confirmed this news, yet. Nokia 8.1 is the rebranded  Nokia X7, which was launched in China recently.

Powered with Snapdragon 710 processor, Nokia 8.1 promises 6GB of RAM (to start with), and dual 13MP + 12MP cameras on the back.

In case it is indeed Nokia X7, then it will have 3,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging and dual slots of 4G SIMs. Besides, it is expected that Nokia 8.1 will support Google ARCore platform as well.

No media invite has been sent as of now, for the launch.

OnePlus 7 Won’t Have 5G?

CNET Spain has reported that OnePlus 7, the successor of recently launched OnePlus 6T won’t have 5G capability.

Infact, OnePlus is planning to launch a new brand, and a new line of smartphones for 5G, which will focus solely on marketing this new technology. SoC maker Qualcomm has also confirmed this development.

As per analysts, 5G smartphones will be expensive, and cannot be accommodated under the OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7T price range.

On the other hand, a separate flagship brand for 5G will ensure that OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T offers a competitive edge, by a reduced price.

As per reports, this new 5G smartphone from OnePlus can be launched at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019.

In our strategic analysis regarding OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 6T, we had included this 5G factor. But it seems that doesn’t matter now.

We will keep you updated.

It doesn’t come as a surprise now when launches its second smartphone in the Q4 of earrival of OnePlus 3 and 3T followed by OnePlus 5 and 5T in 2017. This year, continuing the tr is an upgrade over the OnePlus 6. The smartphone was revealed weeks before the with comp interviews, forums and even confirming some of its features. India, being one of the key marke see the official unveiling today (October 30). For now, the smartphone has been launched in se We used the-all-new OnePlus 6T for some time and here’s are our first impressions of the sma At the outset, users may not see changes and improvements as most of the specifications and as OnePlus 6. However, a closer look will reveal some interesting and useful enhancements.

OnePlus 6T: First impressions

Several improvements have been made by OnePlus in the new OnePlus 6T not just in terms of display but also on battery and camera front. First things first, there is no fingerprint sensor at the back because it is now incorporated under the screen. This was somewhat expected given that its sister brands Oppo and Vivo adopted this feature few months back. While this is an addition, many may not take the missing 3.5mm headphone jack in a positive light. You get a 3.5mm to Type-C connector inside the box though. OnePlus 6T sports a larger 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio with waterdrop notch including the front-facing camera and the speaker grille above it. This is the most one can get from the screen. In our limited time of usage, the display was immersive and good to look at. The in-display fingerprint unlock, which the company calls Screen Unlock, is claimed to be faster than what competitors have. It is quick to unlock the device and you get a fancy animation for it as well. A larger screen in the same sized shell is worth the appreciation. However, the overall design language stays the same. No changes on that front. But since the 'T' line up was never about major changes, you can’t expect a flagship-level upgrade.

OnePlus 6T launched: Specifications, availability and First impressions

We can’t say much about the performance of the smartphone considering the short time we had with the device, but what we can assure is a snappy UI just like OnePlus 6 as both run Android Pie-based OxygenOS and are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB or 8GB RAM. Also, OnePlus is finally saying goodbye to the 64GB storage model as the 6T comes in 128GB and 256GB storage variants only. There are three variants in total - 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM with 128GB storage versions and 8GB RAM with 256GB version.

At the time of launch, OnePlus also touted the ‘Smart Boost’ feature that essentially is an improved integration of hardware and software (RAM and ROM) to launch apps faster by up to 20%. All this happens under the hood and won't be noticeable but it sure is a welcome addition.

Some tweaks are made on the camera front with OnePlus 6T. This includes improved night shots with the ‘Nightscape’ feature, better portraits and selfie shots. We don’t expect it to be as good as what is seen in Pixel smartphones but it still is an improvement nonetheless. The camera specs, however, stay the same. There’s a 16MP Sony IMX371 sensor with EIS and f/2.0 aperture. The dual rear camera setup includes a 16MP Sony IMX519 sensor with OIS, EIS and f/1.7 aperture along with a 20MP Sony IMX376K sensor with f/1.7 aperture and Dual LED flash. We will see how the overall experience turns out to be in the review. So stay tuned.

The battery capacity has been bumped up from 3300mAh in OnePlus 6 to 3700mAh in 6T. This is quite an improvement if you ask us. The battery life on OnePlus 6 was already impressive but the one on 6T might just set a new bar.

Wait for the review to know exactly how it performs on this front. OnePlus says it was able to increase the battery capacity by utilising the space saved by ditching the traditional headphone jack. To win something, you have to lose something. On the whole, OnePlus 6T doesn’t seem like a massive upgrade for now. Of course there are some improvements on the software and hardware side but features like in-display fingerprint sensor, waterdrop notch and others are already there in the market so there's no eyebrow raiser as such.

Although it looks like a side-upgrade at this point, what really is the question here is should you really upgrade and for the given price is it proving to be a worthy competitor or not. If you are a pure specs person than there’s always the Pocophone and Asus Zenfone 5Z as options but what should make you buy the OnePlus 6T? Stay tuned for the review to find out
