Google announced Android Q beta for non-Pixel devices at I/O 2019 early this month. The search giant announced that a total of 15 devices will get the update apart from Google’s own Pixel devices, which includes the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel and Pixel XL. Google also announced that OnePlus’ next flagship smartphones will get the update when they become available and now, OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro are officially getting the beta version of Android Q. The third beta of Android Q is now headed to OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.

OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro get Android Q Developer Preview: Here is how to install
The Chinese smartphone maker announced on its blog post that “the build of Android Q is best suited for developers and early adopters.” It is not clear why OnePlus is targeting developers while Google’s version of Android Q beta 3 seems stable enough even for regular use. However, it needs to be noted that beta software releases are generally filled with bugs that could crash your system, and it is thus advisable not to install Android Q on your primary OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7 Pro devices.

OnePlus released Android Q Developer preview for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T right after Google I/O 2019 and now, it is adding the newest flagship devices as well. The company says it does not recommend “flashing this ROM if you have little or no experience in software development or flashing custom ROMs.” There are also a total of seven known issues listed by the company in its blog post and those alone warrant not flashing the beta release of Android Q on your OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.

The known issues listed by the company include ambient display, which reportedly does not work with Android Q Developer Preview. There are also system stability issues and OnePlus 7 Series users will not be able to send SMS when VoLTE is enabled on their smartphone. Other problems noted by the company include navigation gesture, which is not working and recovery mode also does not work. In the Developer preview release, there could be issues with applications where some apps might not function as expected. There is also a known issue with MTP, which does not allow users to copy rollback file from PC to phone.

While there are a number of issues with the Developer preview of Android Q for OnePlus 7 Series, it does not mean you cannot check out the new features being introduced with Android Q. Those planning to flash must bear in mind that there is a risk of bricking your phone if the instructions are not followed carefully. OnePlus recommends that the battery level of the OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7 Pro is above 30 percent and minimum of 3GB of storage is available before flashing the smartphone. If you are ready to get Android Q on your new OnePlus smartphones then here is how you can flash your device:

Moving from Stable Official Version to Developer Preview Version

1. If you have a OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7 Pro then it will be running the stable official version of Android 9 Pie and the first step is to download the latest ROM upgrade zip package from the specified server. For OnePlus 7 (https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/OnePlus7_13.W.01_OTA_001_all_1905191801_fullupgrade_c7f1193579a84919.zip) and OnePlus 7 Pro (https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/OnePlus7Pro_13.W.01_OTA_001_all_1904301405_wipe_deabd74275e0432d.zip).
2. Now, copy this ROM upgrade package to the phone storage.
3. Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top right icon -> Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding installation package -> upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%.
4. Click Restart once the upgrade is complete.
5. Your phone will reboot into recovery mode to format all existing user data and it will reboot again after formatting to the Developer preview of Android Q.
6. When you see the message “Update Successful” then you can start exploring Android Q on OnePlus 7 Series.

How to rollback from Android Q Developer preview to Android 9 Pie

1. This is also pretty easy since you can rollback or flash your device using local OTA update method. Like the above steps, download the latest ROM upgrade zip package from the specified server. You can find OnePlus 7 package at (https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/fulldowngrade_wipe_MSM_18857_190505_1527_user.zip) and OnePlus 7 Pro at (https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/fulldowngrade_wipe_MSM_18857_190505_1527_user.zip).
2. Once downloaded, copy the rollback package to your phone storage.
3. Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top right icon -> Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding installation package -> upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%.
4. Click Restart once the upgrade is complete.
5. Your phone will reboot into recovery mode to format all existing user data and it will reboot again after formatting to the stable version of Android Pie.
6. When you see the message “Update Successful” then you can start using the newest release of stable version of Android.

OnePlus 7: Top 5 features expected from the next OnePlus flagship phone

New screen, camera design

OnePlus embraced notch screens with OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T phones. The notch, however, changed from the boat-like notch to the popular and much smaller waterdrop notch. OnePlus 7 is rumoured to completely ditch the notch and use a slider front-camera design. According to a recent leaked image, OnePlus 7 is going to feature pop-up selfie camera just like Vivo Nex or Honor Magic 2-style sliding top panel. The pop-up camera module also means OnePlus 7 will bring highest screen-to-body ratio ever on an OnePlus phone. soas.in

HDR Streaming

OnePlus users have long demanded Netflix’s HDR support on their flagship phones. The upcoming flagship phone will finally bring the feature. OnePlus co-founder in a recent company forum post sought feedback from users about adding HDR support on the company’s phones via app stub on Google Play Store. Fun2Ind.com

Pointing out the benefits of HDR support, Carl wrote, “Pros 1: Offer HDR streaming, which can offer our users a higher quality streaming experience. Pros 2: Unleash the full potential of our future smartphone hardware.”

Another company executive added in the same thread, “Hi everyone, we take this question seriously, so in order to have clear data pointing to how our community stands on it, we replaced a new form emphasizing the “could NOT be uninstalled” message. The previous form has been closed and saved for reference.”

“Plus, HDR streaming requires support both from hardware side and content providers side. Here we are talking about whether our future smartphone should support HDR streaming in this popular app,” he wrote. MobAsk.com

Warp Charge 30

OnePlus introduced ultra fast charging technology, Warp Charge 30, with OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. OnePlus claims the tech delivers much faster charging than Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on parameters of screen off charging and charging while gaming. The Warp Charge 30 could become a standard feature on 2019 OnePlus smartphones.

Camera sensors

As pointed out by Forbes, OnePlus has traditionally used Sony’s camera sensors on its flagship phones. With OnePlus 7, the company may use Sony’s IMX586 sensor which will pave way for up to 48-megapixel resolution. It’s worth pointing out that Huawei has already launched 48-megapixel camera phone, Honor View 20, with the same sensor. Xiaomi is also expected to use the sensor for an upgraded Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Apart from an advanced camera sensor, OnePlus may borrow Oppo’s 10X optical zoom camera for its new flagship phone. Oppo is expected to unveil the tech with a reference phone at the Mobile World Congress 2019.

5G

OnePlus has already confirmed its 2019 phone will support 5G network. OnePlus 7 with 5G is set to launch in Europe this year. The 5G variant, however, will be more expensive than the normal one.

Talking of smartphone designs, OnePlus has never shied away from adopting trends.

From slim bezels on OnePlus 5T to a wide display cutout on OnePlus 6 to a smaller, waterdrop notch on OnePlus 6T, the company has done it all.

And now, if recent leaks are to be believed, OnePlus is taking things a notch up with its upcoming OnePlus 7.

So, how will it be different from OnePlus 6T?

OnePlus 7 v/s OnePlus 6T: What will be the differences?

OnePlus 7 v/s OnePlus 6T: What will be the differences?
OnePlus 7 v/s OnePlus 6T: What will be the differences?

Taking things a notch up, this time with a slider

As per a recent image leak, OnePlus will ditch the waterdrop notch we've come to like on the OnePlus 6T in favor of an all-screen design on the upcoming OnePlus 7.

And to achieve the new design, the company has adopted a slider camera mechanism - similar to Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, Lenovo Z5 Pro and Honor Magic 2. msnTarGet.com

Finally, no more notch-potch.

But the slider comes with some woes

While the slider mechanism allows for an increased screen-to-body ratio, it comes with some concerns (and I am not nit-picking).

Firstly, the slider mechanism (whether manual or motorized), may comprise the uncertified water-resistance that OnePlus offers on its unibody phones like the OnePlus 6T. soas.in

Secondly, the phone will become marginally thicker and possibly more prone to damages in case of odd falls.

Beyond the concerns: What else is changing on OnePlus 7?

The recent OnePlus 7 leak revealed a significantly larger earpiece and the casing showed two cutouts in the slider module.

Interestingly, the cutouts point toward a single selfie camera and possibly an IR sensor that'll fortify the lightning fast face unlock feature. Fun2Ind.com

Moreover, the larger earpiece suggests OnePlus might fit in a speaker to offer immersive audio - an upgrade over 6T's single speaker.

Under the hood changes: More power and faster charging

It's a given that OnePlus 7 will come with the latest 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset - an upgrade from Snapdragon 845 on OnePlus 6T.

The new processor will allow for faster data speeds and image processing as well. MobAsk.com

Further, we expect upto 10GB RAM and upto 256GB of internal storage, and 30W Speed Warp fast charging that debuted with OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition.

Time for triple rear cameras?

OnePlus 6T is a solid flagship killer with top-of-the-line internals, smooth software, great battery life but decent cameras because the phone makes do with the same sensors that we saw on its predecessors.

Now considering that the upcoming iPhone and Galaxy S10 flagships are adopting triple rear cameras, it is possible that OnePlus 7 will once again take on its rivals with matching hardware. MsnTarGet.com

Pricing: Expect a slight uptick over OnePlus 6T's price tag

OnePlus 6T has outshined other flagships not by the high-end specs but with its top performance that comes at a significantly lower cost.

But given the expected upgrades, OnePlus 7 might see an uptick of $50-100 over OnePlus 6T. And that will still be $300-400 less than the likes of Galaxy S10 and iPhone 11. Fun2Ind.com

However, we will know about it in Q2 2019.

If you have been waiting for Xiaomi’s own Android Go phone, then you are in luck as it seems a launch is happening very soon. The phone already got certified in a number of markets and now it appears it is ready to launch with The Philippines being the first market to get it. soas.in

The official Facebook account for Xiaomi Philippines shared a post a few hours ago teasing the launch of a new phone. The post also has the hashtag #GoSmartDoMore.

Philippino blog Revu.com.ph got a tip that the phone is already listed on online store Lazada and the listing includes a poster with the full specs of the Redmi Go. The poster also has the tag line Go Smart, Do More which means it is the same device teased by Xiaomi on Facebook. MobAsk.com

The Redmi Go can be said to be a redesigned Redmi 4A/Redmi 5A with a few changes and of course less RAM and storage. We are glad it doesn’t have the rear-facing speaker of both phones. Fun2Ind.com

It has a 5.0-inch 1280 x 720 display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 380 nits of brightness. There is a Snapdragon 425 processor under the hood and it is paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. A dedicated MicroSD card slot will allow you to add up to 128GB of extra storage. MobAsk.com

The Redmi Go has an 8MP f/2.0 camera with HDR and an LED flash on its back. The camera is positioned at the top left corner of the phone. It also has a 5MP f/2.2 front-facing camera.

There is Bluetooth 4.1, single band Wi-Fi, a MicroUSB port, and dual-SIM support. It also has support for 4G LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, and 28. Availability of these bands including dual VoLTE and dual 4G will vary between markets.

The Redmi Go packs a 3,000mAh battery and will come with a 5V/1A charger in the box. Unfortunately, it runs Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) and not the latest Android 9 Pie (Go Edition). It will be available in black and blue when it launches. Fun2Ind.com

There is no info on price yet. The one on Lazada is just a placeholder until the phone launches.

OnePlus has just announced the rollout of the latest stable update of its Android-based OxygenOS for OnePlus 5 and 5T users. This new update comes just days after the company initially rolled out the Android 9 Pie-based OxygenOS 9.0 for device owners (msnTarGet.CoM). Similar to its previous rollouts, the company took to its official OnePlus forums to make the announcement for the new update. It has also added a change-log in the dedicated post to make it easier for users to see what is new in the update. Last but not least, the company also claims to have fixed instances where some users were reporting of “random reboots” when they were screen casting after the new update by MsnTarGet.CoM.

It is likely that this new update will roll out in an incremental manner. This means that the update will only reach a small number of users on the first day and if everything is fine then this update rolled out to the rest of the devices in the market. This method is used to send updates because, in case of a system breaking bug that may have slipped along with the update, the company can halt the update.

The incremental rollout will ensure that the faulty update has not reached all the users in the market at once. This new update comes right after OnePlus rolled out the OxygenOS 9.0.3 for OnePlus 6 device owners in the market. MsnTarGet.CoM Wapsite by The company also rolled out a new update for its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6T in recent days.

Android 9 Pie Beta Update Released for Nokia 8

OxygenOS OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T Android™ 9.0 Pie and Nokia 8 Android 9 Pie Beta Update
OxygenOS OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T Android™ 9.0 Pie and Nokia 8 Android 9 Pie Beta Update

HMD Global is currently enjoying the positive response it received for the newly launched Nokia 8.1. But just a week back, the company was in the news for a bad reason and that’s because of the Nokia 8. Right after the Nokia 8.1’s announcement in Dubai, a report surfaced online stated that HMD Global is intentionally delaying the Android 9 Pie update rollout for the Nokia 8 because it’s looking to boost the sales of the new Nokia 8.1 which runs the latest iteration of Android out of the box. HMD rubbished the report by saying every chipset requires its own tweaking and it’s currently facing some issues with the Nokia 8’s Pie update. But the company did not stop right there. Today, it announced Android 9 Pie beta update for its first flagship smartphone, which is a good thing to see from the two-year-old smartphone brand.

Nokia 8 Gets Android 9 Pie Beta Update

It has been a long wait for Nokia 8 owners as the company chose to release Android 9 Pie update to the mid-range phones such as Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus first. Since every Nokia 8 owner is complaining about the delay of the update, HMD decided to throw in a beta version first so that users can experience it and give feedback to the brand. Juho Sarvikas, the Cheif Product Officer at HMD, announced this new on Twitter by quoting “Thank you for your patience. Since you had to wait a bit longer than expected for Android 9 on your Nokia 8, we decided to make an immediate Beta Labs release. Please join us in finalising the commercial release – your feedback is extremely valuable.”

Being an Android One handset, the Nokia 8 boots stockish version of Android 8.1 Oreo right now. Except for the customised Nokia Camera app, the experience on all the Nokia phones is pretty much similar to the Google Pixel devices.

HMD Global Now Has Four Android 9 Pie Devices

HMD Global is the only manufacturer to push Android 9 Pie update to four devices after Google. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is available at Rs 15,999, Nokia 7 Plus at Rs 25,999, Nokia 7.1 at Rs 19,999 and the Nokia 6.1 at Rs 14,000. Only Google has more devices than HMD Global running Android 9 Pie. The Google smartphones currently running Android 9 Pie are Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL.

India to get 5G soon? DoT expects to complete auction process by August

The government expects to complete processes for 5G spectrum auction by August and the services will be rolled out by 2020, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said Monday.

"Trai has given a preliminary set of recommendations, which the working committee at the Department of Telecommunications is looking at. Task force has also given broader set of (spectrum) bands on which we have to work.

Everybody has said that since ecosystem is not ready, 5G will be ready after july-August next year," Sundararajan told reporters on the sidelines of a workshop with states and Union territories. Amid a raging financial crisis in the industry, India's largest telecom operator Vodafone Idea has urged the telecom department not to hold spectrum auction till 2020 on the grounds that fresh need for quality radio waves will arise only once the 5G ecosystem is ready

"We expect to complete due procedure by then (July-August 2019). I cannot say whether it (spectrum auction) will happen by then, but we will be ready post-second half of 2020. When we say 2020, it doesn't mean the whole country will have 5G but it will start. Field trials are going on," Sundararajan said.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Sunday recommended auction of about 8,644 MHz of telecom frequencies at an estimated total base price of Rs 4.9 lakh crore, which includes radio waves for 5G services.

The 5G committee of the telecom ministry has said about 6,000 Mhz of spectrum can be made available without delay for the next generation mobile service. The panel has spotted spectrum for 5G services across 11 bands, of which four bands -- premium 700 Mhz band, 3.5 gigahertz (Ghz), 24 Ghz and 28 Ghz band -- can be made immediately available for the service.

During her speech at the workshop on the implementation of the National Digital Communications Policy, Sundararajan said that the roll out of 5G services in the country will have an impact of USD 1 trillion on the economy. The workshop was attended by most of the states and Union territories.
