There’s no denying that the Office suite of apps is Microsoft’s most important product, even more critical for the success of the company than Windows. That’s because many people already use alternatives to Windows, including Mac and Chrome OS. Even iOS and Android count as Windows 10 alternatives.

Microsoft Office apps are getting new icons

But regardless of your operating system preferences, Microsoft Office is still the best productivity suite out there. And Office works across platforms, as it’s available on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. Microsoft is always looking to improve the Office apps, even if it means just minor visual alterations. To that end, for the first time in five years, the Office icons are changing, and we already have a preview of what they’ll look like.

The Office apps icons are easily recognizable across platforms, especially if you’ve been a long-time user. The last time Microsoft updated them was five years ago, but a refresh is due. As you can see in the following presentation video, Microsoft is going for simplicity with its new icon designs, as well as a focus on collaboration:

The icons still maintain their personality, and you’ll quickly be able to recognize Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps in any list of computer or mobile applications. The letters that Microsoft uses for its Office apps are still there, but the background has been changed to something simpler — geometric shapes associated with the apps.

Microsoft’s goal here is to focus on the content rather than a specific format and highlight the collaborative nature of Office apps. That’s why the Word app loses the document outline in favor of shapes that suggest lines of text. Similar changes affect the Excel and PowerPoint icons.

“Our design solution was to de-couple the letter and the symbol from the icons, essentially creating two panels (one for the letter and one for the symbol) that we can pair or separate,” Microsoft’s Jon Friedman wrote on Medium. “This allows us to maintain familiarity while still emphasizing simplicity when inside the app.”

Icon design updates are also coming to other apps, including OneDrive, Outlook Mobile, and Skype. The new icons will be rolled out to users in the coming months, starting with mobile and web apps.

30 difficult questions Apple asks in interviews
Working at Apple is incredibly fast-paced and challenging, and if you happen to be an engineer or designer at Apple, this dynamic is undoubtedly amplified. With Apple continuously serving up products meant to be used by hundreds of millions of consumers across the globe, the pressure to deliver hardware and software that “just works” – in a compressed time-frame, no less – is immense. Not surprisingly, landing a job at Apple is no small feat, and the company’s interview process ensures that only the best and brightest are able to walk through the doors at 1 Infinite Loop. While many of the questions Apple asks prospective employees naturally center on standard engineering, math, physics, and Computer Science concepts — data structures, algorithms, materials, sorting etc. — Apple, much like Microsoft, also asks questions that aim to gauge an interviewee’s creativity, communication skills, and problem solving ability. It’s worth noting that Microsoft was the first major tech corporation to start implementing outside the box questions during interviews, an approach that was eventually copied by many other tech companies.
As a quick illustration, two interview questions Microsoft has been known to ask include: How would you design an ATM for children? and I am your grandmother. Describe what MATLAB is to me. Recently, we pored over a whole lot of interview data from Glassdoor to come up with some of the more interesting, puzzling, and at times wacky questions prospective Apple employees have been asked during job interviews. 30 difficult questions Apple asks in interviews : Technology giant Apple is among the world's most-sought after workplaces. Drone registration coming to the UKThe UK government has announced a plan to require drone owners to register their devices. It says the incoming rules are aimed at ensuring safer use of the technology.

Under the planned regulations, owners of drones weighing more than 250 grams will, in future, be required to register their devices — with the stated aim being to “improve accountability and encourage owners to act responsibly”.
In the UK, the government is also planning a new drone safety awareness test that drone owners will have to take to prove they understand relevant safety, security and privacy regulations.
A similar plan in the US to require drone owners register their devices with the Federal Aviation Authority was struck down by an appeals court in May. Though Congress could still legislate on the issue.

There’s no timeframe for when the new UK drone regulations will come into force. Nor are there concrete details of how the rules will be enforced. The government says drone owners “may” be able to register their drones online or through apps, suggesting it’s still exploring options.

The move follows a consultation, published at the end of last year, that took views from members of the public, and which recommended addressing “safety, security and privacy challenges and concerns that drones present”.
Of particular concern to the government is safety research carried out by the Department for Transport (DfT), British Airline Pilots’ Association and the Military Aviation Authority that found drones weighing 400 grams or more can damage the windscreens of helicopters. (Although airline windscreens were found to be much more resistant to collision with a drone.)
There have been several stories of drone near misses in UK air space in recent years. While drones are also increasingly being used to smuggle contraband into prisons such as drugs and mobile phones.

The government says it intends to bring forward and expand the use of geo-fencing technology in order to effectively create no-fly areas around “sensitive” zones such as prisons and airports.

And while the DfT notes that some drone manufacturers have already programmed their drones not to fly in “sensitive areas” it says the government “would like to reinforce this work”.

Commenting in a statement, aviation minister Lord Callanan said: “Our measures prioritise protecting the public while maximising the full potential of drones. Increasingly, drones are proving vital for inspecting transport infrastructure for repair or aiding police and fire services in search and rescue operations, even helping to save lives.

“But like all technology, drones too can be misused. By registering drones, introducing safety awareness tests to educate users we can reduce the inadvertent breaching of airspace restrictions to protect the public.”

Drone maker DJI has welcomed the UK’s drone registration announcement, saying it supports “simple schemes for pilots to easily register drones with governments, as well as educational initiatives to ensure pilots understand how to fly drones safely”.
In a statement, Brendan Schulman, DJI’s VP of policy and legal affairs, said the new rules appear to “strike a sensible balance between protecting public safety and bringing [drone] benefits to the UK’s businesses and the public at large”.
“DJI has invested heavily in adding safety features, and we expect the government to work closely with industry leaders to ensure progress and promote technological innovation. We are encouraged by the fair and thoughtful approach the government has taken to date. The key will be maintaining this balance in the next round of deliberation,” he added.

The drone maker said it already implements a geo-fencing system in its drones which uses GPS navigation to — in its words — “help pilots steer clear of airports, prisons, power plants, and other sensitive locations”. But also expressed reservations about what it dubbed “unnecessary restrictions” being placed on drone owners.

“Plans on deterrents and no fly zones should be developed so that they are proportional to the risks and do not impose unnecessary restrictions. The best answer to collision hazards is to take steps to avoid the collision in the first place, and DJI is proud to be a leader in technology initiatives to accomplish that objective,” it said.

Last year the UK government and the Civil Aviation Authority put out a drone code offering steerage to drone owners on how to make safe use of their devices while regulations continued to be developed. Key principles in the drone code include to always keep your drone in sight and to stay below 400 feet (120 meters).

So, what is the normal course of action when you want to withdraw cash from an ATM? You take your debit card, enter the ATM booth, insert the card, insert PIN and take the cash out.

What is the very foundation of this whole process: Debit cards is removed from the scene?

Yes, you read it right.

Withdraw Cash From ATM Without Debit Cards – This Is The Newest Banking Trend!

Withdraw Cash From ATM Without Debit Cards – This Is The Newest Banking Trend!
Withdraw Cash From ATM Without Debit Cards – This Is The Newest Banking Trend!

Very soon, debit cards will not be required to withdraw cash from ATMs. Cash withdrawal will be completely card-less, and this not fiction anymore.

Withdraw Cash Without Debit Cards Using QR Codes

Banks will be soon employing a QR Code based cash withdrawal mechanism, wherein the use of ATMs will become obsolete.

This new process will be based on QR codes, generated by your banking app.

This is how it will work:
  • You enter the ATM kiosk
  • Open your banking app
  • Generate a unique QR Code for cash withdrawal
  • Show the QR Code at the teller machine, which will scan it
  • Your cash comes out

While generating the QR Code, the banking app will also prompt you to select the denominations of currency which you need. The ATM Teller machine will read that, and give you the exact denominations you need.

Soon, other services such as demand draft, checkbook and more can be done, simply by using the QR Codes generated by the banking app.

This may take some time, as the ATM Teller machines will be required to equip with this new scanning mechanism. Once it is done, then the usage of debit cards will become obsolete, and all you need is your mobile and Internet to withdraw cash from ATMs.

The Rise Of QR Codes In Banking System

The usage of QR Codes to withdraw cash from ATMs is the newest trend, but not the first.

Since last few months, QR codes are being increasingly used for various purposes, and India Post Payments Bank is one of the first banks to use it extensively.

Account holders of India Post Payments Bank can now just scan, and get the cash, and they are not even required to hunt down an ATM.

They can visit the post office or ask the postman or Grameen Dak Sevak (GDS)  to come down to their home. They will have a hand-held device which will scan the QR code, and the amount will be paid by them to the customer.

Since the QR Codes can be also scanned via smartphone, the process is more convenient, and cheaper as well, compared to the cost of generating a new debit card.

These functionalities and innovations using QR Codes are part of the Bharat QR platform, which was launched last year.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 is the most powerful phablet the company has ever released, and it carries a hefty $1,000 price tag to match. The Galaxy S9+ is just as powerful, and it starts at $840. Google’s newest and most powerful smartphone ever is the Pixel 3, which starts at $800. Meanwhile, the larger Pixel 3 XL version costs $900 and up. The LG V40 ThinQ is a great option if you want to stray from the beaten path, but it’ll also cost you a pretty penny with prices starting at $950.

The bottom line is that if you want real power from your flagship smartphone, it’s going to cost you a boatload. But that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Phones have been getting more and more expensive in recent years, and now there’s no ceiling in sight. Smartphone makers have focused on power and speed as key selling points when trying to warrant sky-high prices and convince customers to upgrade, but on Friday a new problem emerged. If power is what you’re looking for in a smartphone, you don’t need to spend $1,000 or $900 or even $800. Why? Because the brand new iPhone XR was just released on Friday and it wipes the floor with every single flagship Android phone in the country.

Apple never used to focus as heavily on specs and performance as Android vendors. That was mainly because specs were the only way Android phone makers could differentiate their devices. Things are a bit different now because most vendors have managed to find different niches and special designs or features that help set their handsets apart.

Meanwhile, Apple leaned more heavily on specs and performance when unveiling the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR last month than it ever has in the past. This is likely a result of the fact that the company’s 2018 iPhone models don’t introduce any new marquee features. In fact, this is the first time since the iPhone 3GS Apple has released an “S” update without a single marquee feature. Instead, Apple’s 2018 iPhone lineup is focused on three things: Bringing Apple’s reworked iPhone design to all new models, choice, and power.

Apple spent a huge amount of time during its September iPhone event talking about how fast and powerful its new iPhones are. It went into great detail about the new A12 Bionic chipset and all of its impressive capabilities. Apple even discussed the fact that it’s the first 7-nanometer chipset to power a commercially available smartphone. That’s definitely a big deal, but it’s also inside baseball and something that Apple never would have spent time on in the past.

It’s possible that Apple focused so much on power and performance this year because of how wide the gap is between its new iPhones and rival Android phones. And the thing that is perhaps most interesting about Apple’s new iPhone lineup is that the “entry-level” 2018 iPhone model is just as powerful as its more pricey counterparts. That’s right — the $749 iPhone XR is far more powerful than even the most expensive 2018 Android flagship phones. Can you imagine buying a $1,250 Galaxy Note 9 and seeing an iPhone that costs about half as much wipe the floor with it?

Geekbench is considered one of the two best benchmark tests when it comes to measuring smartphone performance. Let’s see how the iPhone XR does in the Geekbench 4 test:
Today is a dark day for Android flagship phones
Today is a dark day for Android flagship phones

And how does that stack up against the most powerful Android phones out there? Below you’ll find two charts showing the top-ranked Android devices from the Geekbench site. First, the single-core test results:
Today is a dark day for Android flagship phones
Today is a dark day for Android flagship phones

Now, the multi-core test results:
Today is a dark day for Android flagship phones
Today is a dark day for Android flagship phones

Yeah, it’s not even close. In the single core tests, there aren’t even any Android phones in the same league as Apple’s new iPhone XR. The iPhone XR score more than 1,000 points higher than the closest Android phone. That’s a staggering 45% advantage. In multi-core tests Apple’s iPhone XR has a 24% advantage, which is also huge. In the AnTuTu benchmark test that’s widely regarded as the other top way to measure performance, the iPhone XR scores over 363,500. The top-ranking Android phone in the world doesn’t even break 300,000.

Power isn’t everything, but there’s no question that it ranks right up there with battery life as one of the most important parts of the smartphone experience. Oh, and if battery life is a concern, you should know that the iPhone XR also shines in that department and beats most of the best-performing Android phones out there. The iPhone XR might not be as cheap as rumors had suggested before the phone was unveiled last month, but there’s no question whatsoever that it’s the single best value in the premium smartphone market right now.
