Bharti Airtel, the former market leader, has shown interest in forging a partnership with Vodafone Idea in a joint venture for owning fibre network to focus on expansion. As per an ET Telecom report, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, both competitors are ready to bow down for forging a joint venture entity which would own the fibre network and would help drive bolstering growth and better influx for both the companies.

Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel Trying to Raise Funds

The business daily reported a top Airtel official saying, “We will be delighted to share and create one company. We have already built a lot of fibre with Vodafone Idea, and over the past two years, a lot of sharing has happened between the two companies.”

Notably, Indus Towers, the biggest tower company of India is jointly owned by Airtel and Vodafone Idea. Now due to the intense tariff war and the financially draining situations of the industry, both the companies have been resorting to different ways to raise funds to meet their capex and operational requirements. While Bharti Airtel has been selling its stake in the tower unit Bharti Infratel and making private placements of shares of its Africa business, Reliance Jio has set aside all of its fibre assets onto another separate entity and has plans to monetise it.

Airtel Plotting to Regain Top Position

Sunil Bharti Mittal led telco, Airtel, plans to regain its previous rank of top Revenue Market Share (RMS) holder by the end of the current fiscal year. Currently, Vodafone Idea has claimed the top spot with 32.8% RMS, with Bharti Airtel lagging behind at 30.9%. Reliance Jio, on the other hand, has 26.1% RMS as reported by ICICI Securities through the data collected by the industry watchdog, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).

Going by the analysts’ opinions, now the telcos will be able to hike the prices as the industry is headed towards stability owing to the consolidation. Also, since all the three telcos now own almost one-third RMS, the focus will soon be on increasing revenue by increasing prices. Another report by ET Telecom had denoted that Airtel is ready to shed off 60-70 million low-end subscribers in a bid to boost its ARPU.

This fact is definitely reinforced when we get to see the current trend in the telecom industry with operators introducing minimum recharge packs to weed out low paying customers and to increase their ARPU.

Sunil Bharti Mittal led telco, Bharti Airtel has come up with new strategies and plans for its broadband wing in the run-up to launch of Reliance Jio’s GigaFiber FTTH service. Now Airtel is expected to focus on premium customers in the top 100 cities of India instead of laying out an enormous fibre network in the country like Reliance Jio plans to do. Reliance Jio has announced that it would introduce GigaFiber in 1,100 cities of India, in contrast to that, Bharti Airtel will only focus on the top 100, and will cater to the customers who don’t mind paying a decent sum for excellent services. This move is similar to the one implemented in the prepaid segment, where Airtel has introduced minimum prepaid recharges of Rs 35 for its customers.

Airtel to Only Focus on Better Paying Customers

Going by a mint report, a person aware of the matter said, “Airtel’s plan is clear…to stay focused on the top 100 cities… stay focused on the high income, stay focused on high-rise buildings rather than horizontal deployment, as this business model is more economical and logical.”

Reliance Jio’s launch of GigaFiber is expected to bring a similar disruption in the broadband sector as it brought in the wireless industry. Also, on a related note, the Mukesh Ambani led telco has already started registrations for Reliance Jio GigaFiber with the aim of connecting 50 million homes. Back in July, Mukesh Ambani had announced that Reliance Jio GigaFiber would be the most massive greenfield fixed-line broadband rollout globally, which would be launched simultaneously in 1,100 cities connecting households, small and medium enterprises and more.

Like aforesaid, the former market leader will try to take a different way towards the broadband competition as it will only focus on better-paying customers in the tier 1 cities. Right now, the telco boasts of having 2.2 million wired broadband subscribers as per data concluded on September 30. The data from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) shows that there are 18 million wired broadband subscribers across India.

The source further added to his statement, “As long as it is mid- to high-end of the market, Airtel will compete there very hard and match any prices offered by rivals.” He went on saying, “Two years ago, the company used to do half-a-million home passes every year. Last year it did one-and-a-half-million home passes. In 2018-19, Airtel is deploying 2.5 million home passes. In the next few years, the plan is to end up doing 8-10 million home passes. It already has 10 million home passes. This will make that a total of 20 million.”

It’s worth knowing that in the case of wired internet, the distribution to homes is done via an optical distribution frame with a single fibre which is dedicated to each customer and is named a home pass. However, this pass doesn’t necessarily mean a conversion.

Airtel Home Platform to Club Services Under One Banner

It is also Airtel’s belief that targeting the upper segment would be a logical move since home broadband is a costly exercise and requires more committed spending from customers in contrast to wireless subscribers.

Mahesh Uppal, director at communications consulting firm ComFirst India also remarked, “Given that deployment of fibre is time-consuming and expensive, Airtel’s strategy to focus on the high-end consumers makes sense as it will generate healthier cash flows. It seems wise for the company to not invest heavily in areas where returns are going to be too far away in the long run.” Further, to ensure customer retention Airtel has hinted towards development of a digital platform, Airtel Homes platform, where it will offer bundled services with more benefits to the users.

As per the source mentioned above, there is a slight overlap of the customers using broadband, DTH and wireless services. Thus Airtel’s focus will be on building a platform where users will be able to get benefits from all three services. The platform will provide integrated billing along with discounts. The person also added that a pilot is ongoing in Andhra Pradesh, where customers can buy all three services under the same Airtel Homes Platform banner. Additionally, the platform will not only offer Airtel’s services but will also club other services like home security and surveillance through a third party vendor.

Jio’s expansion and popularity in India is unstoppable, as, in the month of September, they were the only telecom firm to add new users. Both Airtel and Vodafone-Idea lost crores of users in the same month.

The presence and dominance of Jio have triggered unprecedented consolidations in the telecom space: Vodafone-Idea merger is no doubt the biggest among them all.

However, now Airtel and Vodafone-Idea may join forces to fight the mighty Jio, and this can change everything.

What will be this partnership all about? How will they take on Jio with this new arrangement? Keep reading to find out more!

Will Airtel Join Forces With Vodafone-Idea?

As per an unnamed top official from Airtel, they are now open to join forces with Vodafone-Idea and ensure more profits and revenues to defeat Jio by March end.

This alleged partnership will most probably happen in the telecom infrastructure space, rather than in the operations or services space.

In the past as well, Airtel and Vodafone had shared telecom infrastructure and towers, and this can be a new start to their old partnership.

This time, Jio will be the catalyst.

How Will This Work?

As per the information available, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea may float a new company which will be solely working on the optical fiber niche, which can also include towers and networks.

Once this company is floated, revenues can be generated as well, which will help both Airtel and Vodafone-Idea to fight Jio’s onslaught. 5G is about to hit India, and every telecom company and ISP will need services of an optical fiber network.

Immense opportunity for monetization.

The unnamed official said, “We will be delighted to share and create one company. We have already built a lot of fibre with Vodafone Idea and over the past two years, a lot of sharing has happened between the two companies.”

There has been no official comment from Airtel or Vodafone-Idea regarding this update.

Is This Partnership Even Needed?

Strategically speaking, both Airtel and Vodafone-Idea are gasping for air, as Jio is snatching away market share at an unprecedented pace.

As shared earlier, Jio was the only telco to add new users in September, while Airtel and Vodafone, Idea lost their existing customers.

In order to increase ARPU, Airtel and Vodafone are now forcing the users to recharge monthly, and this is causing even more harm to them, as more and more users are now ditching their services, and opting for Jio or BSNL.

Even Airtel had to slash their tariff for 28-day validity plans, due to these reasons.

Hence, if Airtel and Vodafone-Idea want to beat Jio in 2019, then they will need to do something dramatic, and out of the box.

And maybe this new partnership in optical fiber space holds the secret.

To simplify their prepaid portfolio, telecom operators made a significant move last month. The private telecom operators except for Reliance Jio, notably including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Tata Docomo officially resorted to removing certain recharges from their portfolio, and introduced minimum recharges which would keep the subscribers’ incoming and outgoing calls on when they ran out of a prepaid plan. The telcos made this move in an attempt to increase their average revenue per users (ARPU) and to weed out non-paying customers from their subscriber base. Previously Airtel and Vodafone Idea had introduced minimum recharge plans of Rs 35, Rs 65 and Rs 95, however, as per our latest observation, Airtel has introduced a new minimum smart recharge plan of Rs 23. Read ahead to know more about Airtel’s new minimum recharge pack.

Airtel Rs 23 Minimum Recharge Pack

Airtel subscribers can catch the details of this new recharge under the Airtel’s ‘Smart Recharge’ section on the official Airtel website. Previously Airtel was offering smart recharges starting with Rs 25. Unlike other smart recharges which offer talk time, data and rate cutter benefits, this plan is merely going to extend the validity of the subscriber’s plan and is going to offer other services like SMS and calling at the usual rate. This plan will extend the account validity by 28 days and will provide all local and STD calls at 2.5p/sec. Further, the SMS will be charged at Re 1 for local SMS and Rs 1.5 for national SMS. Apart from that, this plan does not bundle any data benefit.

Airtel Smart Recharges Up to Rs 245

The other smart recharges listed on the Airtel official website start from Rs 25 and go as high as Rs 245. The second Rs 25 Smart Recharge ships a talk time of Rs 18.69 to the subscribers along with 10MB data which is valid for 28 days. Next on this list is the Rs 35 Smart Recharge which ships Rs 26.6 talk time to the users and it also offers the rate cutter benefit with a discount of 60 paise per minute or 1 paise per second. It also bundles 100MB data for 28 days validity period.

The other two smart recharge of Rs 65 and Rs 95 offer full talk time benefit of Rs 65 and Rs 95 respectively. Firstly, the Rs 65 plan offers 200MB of data, while the Rs 95 Smart Recharge ships 500MB of data to the users. Additionally, the Rs 95 Smart Recharge cuts the price of voice calls to 30 paise per minute, whereas the Rs 65 plan ships the same voice calling rate of 60 paise per minute.

There are also other highly priced smart recharges of Rs 145 and Rs 245 listed on the Airtel website. As per the information provided, the Rs 145 Smart Recharge ships 1GB data to the subscribers with full talk time of Rs 145 and also brings down the voice calling rate to 30 paise per minute. There is also the Rs 245 Smart Recharge from Airtel which also ships the full talk time of Rs 245, and offers voice calling at 30 paise per minute along with 2GB of data for a validity of 84 days.

The Airtel official website lists that these smart recharges are available in select circles only including Tamil Nadu, UP West and Punjab, however, as the hype of minimum recharges grows, these plans are expected to be available for subscribers of Airtel in all other circles as well.

Jio Gigafiber broadband services were announced a couple of months back in India and after testing its FTTH services in the country for over two years now, Reliance Jio is all set to compete with the likes of Airtel V-fiber and BSNL broadband in the fiber-to-the-home industry. Just like its debut in the telecom sector, Reliance Jio is expected to completely disrupt the broadband segment as well with its affordable pricing and cheap cost of data.

In recent time, we have seen a huge increase in consumption of online video content and according to some reports, mobile video content expected to grow at 83 per cent CAGR over the next 5 years, it might be the right time for Jio GigaFiber services to debut with its affordable prices. On the other hand, it is worth noting that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is currently the biggest broadband service provider in India while Airtel V-fiber has also been introduced by Bharti Airtel in the country.

Now, with Jio GigaFiber FTTH broadband services, the face of this industry is expected to change entirely and here we compare the prices or plans of Jio GigaFiber, Airtel V-fiber and BSNL Broadband, and see how Reliance Jio is planning to bring another revolution with its debut in the broadband industry.

BSNL Broadband

BSNL has over 9.30 million users for its broadband services and offers up to 100Mbps speeds with 750GB of monthly data after which the speed is reduced to 2 Mbps. While this BSNL broadband plan is priced at Rs. 1,277 per month, there is also an Rs. 777 monthly plan from BSNL which comes with 500GB data at 50Mbps as well.

There are no activation or installation charges, however, you will have to pay a one-time security fee as well as ADSL WiFi Modem charges to get a BSNL broadband connection.

Airtel V-fiber

Airtel V-fiber or Airtel Broadband is the second largest player in the industry and operates on major Indian cities such as Delhi/NCR, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Pune and Indore, for now. Unlike BSNL, the availability of Airtel ‘V-Fiber’ is limited to these cities while the deployment was part of the company’s network transformation programme named ‘Project Leap’.

Coming to the plans or prices of Airtel Broadband, there is an Airtel Rs 799 broadband plan which comes with 100GB of monthly data with up to 40Mbps of speeds as well as unlimited voice call benefits. There are also the Rs. 1,299 and Rs. 1,999 (Gurugram circle) plans which come with 500GB data at 100Mbps and unlimited data at 100Mbps speeds, respectively. Subscribers will also get a free router and Amazon prime subscription while Airtel V-fiber can be connected to a maximum of 10 devices.

Jio GigaFiber FTTH broadband

While the Jio GigaFiber FTTH broadband services were announced months back, there is no official word on its availability to the masses, however, Reliance Jio has partnered with Hathway and Den Networks for last mile connectivity and the Jio GigaFiber services are expected to launch soon in India.

That said, there is no official word on the official plan details as well, however, Reliance Jio has announced the Jio GigaFiber Preview Offer under which all new subscribers will get 100GB monthly data for the first three months at 100Mbps of speeds and once the monthly limit is exhausted, users will be able to avail additional data with a recharge from Jio.com. It has also been announced that for a new Jio GigaFiber connection, users will have to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs. 4,500 for the Jio GigaFiber router and the JioTV router.

As for Jio GigaFiber plans and prices, reports have suggested that Reliance Jio will launch its broadband plans starting from as low as Rs. 500.

Reliance Jio has completely disrupted the Indian telecommunication industry since its debut around two years back while forcing the likes of Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India to bring down the data as well as tariff costs. This has also given birth to a new segment of prepaid recharge packs often called as combo plans, under which, users get multiple benefits such as data, SMS, unlimited calls and more.

That said, it is worth noting that there is also a long-term validity segment under which Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone are offering around 84 days validity. While this is one of the most popular prepaid recharge segment in India, it usually comes with plans priced near the Rs. 300-mark. On the other hand, for users who are looking for a one-month validity period, the Rs. 200-mark suits them the best and here we take a look at the best prepaid recharge packs under Rs. 200 from Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India.

Airtel Rs. 249 prepaid recharge plan

Airtel Rs. 249 prepaid recharge plan comes with a validity period of 28 days, unlimited local, STD and roaming calls on any network, 100 SMS per day, and 2GB of 4G data per day.

Vodafone Rs. 255 prepaid recharge plan

The Vodafone Rs. 255 prepaid recharge plan is just 6 rupees costlier than Airtel’s prepaid plan in this segment and comes with a validity period of 28 days, unlimited local, STD and roaming calls on any network, 100 SMS per day, access to live TV streaming on the Vodafone Play app and 2GB of 4G data per day.

Reliance Jio Rs. 199 prepaid recharge plan

As expected, Reliance Jio is offering the most affordable plan in the segment with the Jio Rs. 199 prepaid recharge plan which is Rs. 50 less than the Airtel plan and comes with a validity period of 28 days, unlimited local, STD and roaming calls on any network, 100 SMS per day, free subscription to Jio’s suite of apps and 2GB of 4G data per day.

Over the last few months, telecom operator Reliance Jio has been silent in the tariff department because it’s still offering the best prepaid plans in the industry and no other telco has been able to match it. After close to ten months, Reliance Jio has introduced a prepaid plan, but don’t get excited as it’s an annual plan, not a three-month or monthly prepaid plan. Jio has come up with an annual prepaid plan of Rs 1,699 taking the competition to a whole new level in the telecom industry. With the new prepaid plan, the telco is providing an excellent 1.5GB data per day, which takes the overall data benefit to 547.5GB for 365 days. Not only that, the telco has come up with a Diwali offer under which it’s offering 100% cashback to all the users on every prepaid plan.

BSNL has now launched a new prepaid plan of Rs 78 ahead of Diwali. That being said, it’s one of the best prepaid plans priced under Rs 100 from the state-run telco. BSNL is shipping a total of 20GB data along with unlimited voice calling with this prepaid plan. And the best part is the plan’s availability is across the 20 telecom circles where BSNL is operating.

Vodafone launched a couple of prepaid plans priced at Rs 511 and Rs 569 taking on Airtel and Reliance Jio’s offerings. With the Rs 511 prepaid plan, Vodafone is offering a whopping 168GB of 4G data and this plan takes on Airtel’s Rs 499 prepaid plan which also provides similar data benefit. The Rs 569 prepaid plan, on the other hand, takes on Airtel’s Rs 558 prepaid plan as both of them provides 3GB daily data for 84 days. Notably, both the Rs 511 and Rs 569 prepaid plans from Vodafone are valid across the countr.

Jio users recharging with this plan can also enjoy unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit and 100 SMS per day for the same validity period.

Notably, this is the cheapest yearly prepaid plan launched by any 4G telecom service provider in the country right now. BSNL also come up with a similarly priced plan of Rs 1,699, but the telco is providing just 3G data benefit. And the data benefit offered by Reliance Jio is also acceptable for the most part.

Reliance Jio Diwali Offer: 100% Cashback on All the Prepaid Plans

Furthermore, Reliance Jio has come up with a Diwali offer under which the telco is offering 100% cashback on all the recharge value. Prepaid plans eligible for the cashback are: Rs 149, Rs 198, Rs 299, Rs 349, Rs 398, Rs 399, Rs 448, Rs 449, Rs 498, Rs 509, Rs 799, Rs 999, Rs 1,699, Rs 1,999, Rs 4,999 and Rs 9,999. Notably, all the prepaid plans priced above Rs 100 are eligible for the 100% cashback offer. For the users recharging with the newly launched Rs 1,699 prepaid plan, Jio will offer them three vouchers of Rs 500 worth and one voucher of Rs 200.

All these prepaid plans will receive 100% cashback voucher which can be redeemed across all the Reliance Digital stores on a minimum purchase of Rs 5,000. Do make a note that a user can not club two vouchers with one transaction. And the vouchers will expire on December 31, 2018.

The items exempted from this offer are gift vouchers/gift cards of Cleartrip, KFC, Bookmyshow, Google Play and Google. Hard disks of Seagate, Western Digital, Sony and tables of Lenovo and Samsung are not applicable under this offer. Lastly, you can not purchase any phones of Samsung and Xiaomi using these vouchers.

Jio Crossed 250 Million Subscriber Base

BSNL Prepaid STV 78: Benefits and Validity

Moving onto the benefits offered by this new prepaid plan from BSNL, it offers unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit to any network within India. Notably, BSNL is offering voice calls even to the numbers located in Mumbai and Delhi circles. Furthermore, BSNL is touting unlimited video calling option with this prepaid plan which can be activated by sending an SMS to 123 as ‘STV COMBO78.’

And finally, we get to the data benefit. With its new Rs 78 prepaid plan, the telco is offering a total of 2GB data per day, post which users will get speeds of 80 Kbps. Anupam Shrivastava CMD BSNL said that on the “Occasion of Durga Puja, Dussehra and Diwali, STV-78 will suit to all and will enable them to be in touch with their family and friends during the festive season.”

The validity of the plan is ten days, meaning users will be able to enjoy high-speed data of up to 20GB.

BSNL Withdraws Existing Prepaid STV 78

For the unaware, BSNL is already offering an STV 78 for its prepaid users in various circles. After the introduction of new STV 78, BSNL has withdrawn the earlier available similar denomination prepaid plan. The withdrawal plan offers 2GB of data for a period of three days, but it was introduced long back before the entry of Reliance Jio. So BSNL has revised its Rs 78 plan to offer ten times data benefit than earlier, and it also added unlimited voice calling benefit to the pack.

BSNL Keeps on Taking Private Telecom Operators

In the last few weeks, there has been a shift towards voice-only plans with Vodafone and Airtel leading the way. But BSNL is following the footsteps of Jio as it continues to offer combo prepaid plans which offer equally better voice calling and data benefits. The newly launched STV 78 is a clear example. Vodafone has recently launched a prepaid plan of Rs 279 offering unlimited voice calls and 4GB data for 84 days. Then there’s a Rs 189 prepaid plan with unlimited voice calling and 2GB data for 56 days. BSNL is offering neither these plans, but the telco has its own set of plans which prove to be better than private telecom operators tariff plans.

Vodafone Rs 569 and Rs 511 Prepaid Plans: Benefits and Details

Getting into the specifics, the all-new Rs 569 plan by Vodafone ships 3GB of 4G/3G data per day along with unlimited voice calls capped daily and weekly according to the FUP limit. There are also 100 SMS per day bundled in the pack. On the other hand, the Rs 511 plan gives 2GB of 4G/3G data per day combined with the usual unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day. The validity of both the plans is 84 days. The cap for voice calling has been set at 250 minutes per day and 1000 minutes per week for these plans.

On the whole, Vodafone India is offering 252GB of 4G/3G data at just Rs 569 for 84 days, and the Rs 511 plan gives 168GB data for 84 days. Clearly, the Rs 569 plan is a better one even as it’s priced slightly higher.

Vodafone Continues to Sell Other Prepaid Plans of Rs 549 and Rs 509

Besides these new plans, Vodafone continues to sell its other prepaid plans of Rs 549 and Rs 509, offering 3.5GB data and 1.4GB data per day for 28 days and 90 days respectively. Like other Vodafone plans, these prepaid packs also come with 100 SMS per day along with unlimited calling benefits.

Vodafone Rs 569 vs Airtel Rs 558 Prepaid Plan

On the other hand, Airtel is also offering a prepaid plan of Rs 558 which gives a user 3GB data per day, unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day for a period of 82 days. While Vodafone is restricting the voice calls to 250 minutes per day, Airtel doesn’t have any such FUP limit on its voice calls.

In contrast, Reliance Jio has a Rs 448 prepaid plan that offers 2GB of 4G data per day benefit for 84 days, while the Rs 498 plan gives 2GB data per day benefit for 91 days.

Aforesaid, Vodafone India is still offering the Rs 549 and Rs 509 prepaid plans, which takes on Jio’s prepaid offerings. The Rs 549 prepaid plan is currently offering 3.5GB data per day benefit while the Rs 509 plan is providing users with 1.4GB data benefit per day. The Rs 549 plan is valid for 28 days whereas the Rs 509 plan is valid for 90 days.

Vodafone Beats Jio in the Data War

With the Rs 569 plan, Vodafone India has managed to beat Reliance Jio in the data war. With this plan, Vodafone has brought down the value of per GB to just Rs 2.25 and that’s a masterstroke from the country’ second largest telecom service provider. Vodafone might remove the Rs 549 prepaid plan anytime as the Rs 569 plan has been introduced as a pan-India plan.

Bharti Airtel has made the most significant change its users have been asking for for a long time. Airtel starts offering free Amazon Prime subscription worth Rs 999 with its Rs 399 postpaid plan as well. Earlier, the telco offered the free subscription for Amazon Prime with the myPlan Infinity Postpaid plans priced above Rs 499, but now, the Rs 399 plan has joined the list. Besides this move, Airtel did not make any changes to the existing Rs 399 postpaid plan which still offers 40GB data per rental, unlimited voice calls and 100 text messages per day. Airtel users on the Rs 399 postpaid plan can also carry forward the data benefit up to 200GB/500GB.

Bharti Airtel Rs 399: Postpaid Plan Benefits and Details

Airtel has been offering the Rs 399 postpaid plan for a long time, but very recently, it revised the plan to take on Vodafone’s RED 399 postpaid plan. After the recent revision, the Rs 399 myPlan Infinity Postpaid plan of Airtel is providing 40GB of data (20GB standard and extra 20GB data every month for one year), unlimited voice calls to any network within India and 100 SMS per day for the entire rental period. Additionally, Airtel users can enjoy free access to Airtel TV and Wynk Music, along with free Rs 51 Amazon Pay Gift Card. Starting today, Airtel users on the Rs 399 postpaid plan can also be able to redeem free Amazon Prime membership worth Rs 999 for one year. Notably, Airtel is also providing Rs 50 discount every month for six months with this postpaid plan. This essentially means that you can get the plan at Rs 349 every month.

How to Redeem Amazon Prime Membership?

If you’re on the Airtel’s Rs 399 postpaid plan, you can follow the below steps to avail the free Amazon Prime membership. Fire up the Airtel TV app or My Airtel app. If you haven’t downloaded these apps yet, then download them first for free from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. After downloading, if you want to redeem via Airtel TV app, you’ll see a banner on the home screen asking you to redeem the benefit which comes bundled with your postpaid plan.

In the My Airtel app, Airtel has created a new menu called ‘Airtel Thanks‘ and all the benefits associated with your postpaid/prepaid plan will be visible under that menu itself. Right after opening the My Airtel application, you can see the Airtel Thanks banner, click on it and you’ll see the Amazon Prime membership option. Follow the on-screen steps to redeem one-year of Amazon Prime subscription for free.

Vodafone, BSNL Also Offering Amazon Prime Subscription

This move from Bharti Airtel could be to retain its postpaid base and also to add more users on board to increase the ARPU. Airtel’s move is largely due to the pressure from Vodafone and BSNL. Back in April this year, Vodafone revamped its entire RED range of postpaid plans to provide double data benefit and during the same revision, the UK-based telco started offering Amazon Prime subscription to its users even with the Rs 399 postpaid plan. Except for the Rs 299 plan, all the Vodafone RED postpaid plans ship with free Amazon Prime membership for one year.

And very recently, state-run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited joined the list and is currently providing free Amazon Prime subscription of Rs 999 for one year with its postpaid plans priced at Rs 399 and above. And to no one’ surprise, Airtel has started providing free Amazon Prime subscription worth one year with its base postpaid plan.

Amazon Prime Membership: Benefits and Details

Launched back in December 2016, Amazon Prime membership is the company’s premium scheme which can be availed for Rs 999 for one year. Amazon Prime users usually get access to any major sales ahead of others, and free and faster shipping on many items. Users will also get free access to Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Music to watch and enjoy music.

Airtel is concentrating on grabbing more users by launching new entry-level plans and the latest one to join the list is Rs 195 prepaid plan. Bharti Airtel has launched a new prepaid plan of Rs 195 taking the battle to Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea Limited. This new entry-level plan offers a total of 35GB data and unlimited voice calls, but Airtel users will miss out on SMS benefits. With this plan, Airtel takes on other plans of Rs 198 from Reliance Jio and Rs 199 plans from Vodafone Idea, but we don’t know the exact reason of why this plan exists as it offers limited benefits than the Rs 199 prepaid recharge from Airtel. Nevertheless, Airtel must be looking to create a new tariff portfolio with 1.25GB daily data benefit.

In the Chennai circle, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has made revisions to its Fiber to the Home (FTTH) broadband plans meaning that now FTTH customers in Chennai who have subscribed to the below mentioned FTTH plans would be able to enjoy more FUP and faster speeds. The BSNL FTTH plans which have undergone revision include the Rs 999, Rs 1,299, Rs 1,699, Rs 1,999, Rs 2,999 and Rs 4,999 plans. After the tweaks, BSNL is offering a FUP of up to 3.5TB per month, with the Rs 2,999 plan offering 2TB or 2000GB FUP data in a billing cycle with the maximum speed being 100 Mbps. Except for the Rs 999 plan in this list, all the other plans offer 100 Mbps speed. To know more about what the BSNL FTTH plans are offering in Chennai post this revision, don’t stop reading.

Airtel Rs 195 Prepaid Recharge: Benefits and Validity

Unlike other combo recharge plans of Bharti Airtel, the newly introduced prepaid plan gives voice calling and data benefits only. Firstly, the plan offers unlimited local, STD and roaming voice calls without any FUP limit. Second, it provides a user 1.25GB of data per day, which becomes a total of 35GB data during the validity period of 28 days. As mentioned above, the new recharge plan from Airtel is not offering any SMS benefits, which might be a letdown for users who rely on text messages for communications.

Airtel Rs 195 Prepaid Plan is Limited to Few Circles at the Moment

Right now, the Rs 195 prepaid recharge plan of Airtel is available only in select circles such as Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Kerala and a few. Also, the plan can be availed only via the company’s website and it’s yet to be made available for recharge through My Airtel application. We have checked the plan’s availability in Karnataka and Delhi circles, but there’s no luck. Let us know by commenting below whether Airtel launched this plan in your circle or not.

Airtel Rs 195 Prepaid Recharge vs Airtel Rs 168 Recharge

Very recently, Bharti Airtel launched  a segmented tariff plan of Rs 168 which gives a user unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit, 100 SMS per day and 1GB data per day for 28 days. The newly launched Rs 195 prepaid plan comes with slightly better 1.25GB data benefit per day and unlimited voice calls but lacks free text messages benefit though. So if you send text messages more often, then you should get yourself the Rs 168 recharge, but again, it’s a segmented prepaid plan valid only for select users.
